That is the part that concerns me, from Devils side.
Liljegren was a guy that some had as #1 overall early on in his draft year.
He basically started his D-1 in same position as Dahlin did a year later.
But he fell throughout his draft year, and each year thereafter, the ceiling has gotten lower and lower.
Now he has played 4 years in AHL...at what point does he go from being prospect to depth piece?
He missed some significant playtime during his draft season as he battled mononucleosis and he struggled to find his game. As a result, his draft stock took a hit.
From Lawrence Gilman GM Marlies
“He obviously has good puck skills, he transports the puck very well, he skates very well, he has a good shot… but the greatest impact was how he processed the game. How he thought it. His decision-making.”
Liljegren has been getting more ice time and has an increase in responsibility, as he’s now the Marlies go-to defenseman on the team’s top pairing. And again he is only 22!
Josh Simpson and Kyle Cushman who follow the Marlies closely all talk highly of him.
Will he be in your top 2 probably not but he most definitely will be in your top 4.
And to my point that started this, his value is so much higher than Nick Merkley
