I know Marner just whiffed in the playoffs but come on man he's a 100 point player, Tkachuk is like a 50 point guy at this point. You're overvaluing your own guy

Literally never hit 100 points, "he's a 100 point player."

What would they think of next

Tkachuk's built for playoff hockey and will likely be "C" in OTT.
Mitchy, not so much.

Scored 92 pts once, cashed in on one season and was overpaid by about $3.5 million, then averaged about 60 the rest of the way. He’s an overpaid Sam Reinhart who doesn’t go to the net. I’d rather have Tkachuk too.

You're calling Marner a 100 point player when hes had 0 100 point seasons. And in his 5 seasons, only has had 1 season over 70 points.

I'm literally a Bruins fan lol so not sure who you think "they" is. His last three seasons were 94 points, 93 point pace, 100 point pace. Is that pedantic enough? The point is he blows Tkachuk out of the water. People are overreacting to Marner's playoffs.

Uh averaged 67... In 50 some games. That's a pretty important detail you left out. By that standard, Tkachuk was a 30 point player this year.

oh i agree. but tkachuk can easily be a 80-90 point guy who brings other elements that marner doesnt. thats not worth paying a 1st rd pick for

2 of his most recent (aka matured as an athelete) seasons have been shorten because of the pandemic. This past season, on an 82 game season he was on pace for 99.89 points, sue us for rounding up. His last full 82 game season, at the age of 22 years old, put up 94 points. gtfo

This is at least a reasonable take if you believe Tkachuk can become that player. If management really thinks he can, I wouldn't trade him for Marner. On the other hand, that's a big "if".

If you think Toronto doesn’t do it, and we keep saying Ottawa wouldn’t trade Tkachuk, why bother posting this?

Who says no, everyone. Keep beating this dead horse

Say what you will, I still wouldn’t want him at that price. An $11 million player should be one of the top 10 in the league and he’s not. He’s had every opportunity to prove he’s the type of guy you need to win in the playoffs, he’s not that guy either. Toronto’s problem is they have a team full of regular season players that can get you to the playoffs but they won’t win you anything when you get there. My question: Who is carrying whom? Does Matthews carry Marner, or is Mitch Marner carrying Austen Matthews? Considering that you would never consider trading Austen Matthews, I think we have our answer.

To be fair points wise he was a top 10 player in the league number 3 actually. As for the playoffs thing I truly think that playing for his hometown team as well as what happened during his contract and people turning on him ****ed him up and he will explode when he goes somewhere else and ditches the history he has with this team

I'll agree that this trade isn't realistic, but this take on Marner is nonsense. 94 points in 82 games, then 67 points in 59 games, then 67 points in 55 games. He hasn't hit 100 yet like someone claimed above but he isn't far off. He's an elite young winger who doesn't know how to play playoff hockey yet. Still has tremendous value. Maybe overpaid by 1.9mil, I think Marner at a 9mil cap hit is real nice. All this being said, I would like to see what the Leafs could get for him via trade.

picks and prospects, NO TEAM with a competent GM will trade a similarly aged, similarly productive player that is cheaper for him
