My Dream Offseason

Created by: fangm
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2021
Published: Jun. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chris Johnston made an interesting comment that the Leafs' strategy with the big 4 is just to hope that one offseason out of the next three when they are all signed that they all simultaneously hit hot streaks. He mentions that you see it during the regular season when all 4 are hot they are unstoppable and can go on a 20 game winning streak where they just dominate and lose 1 or 2 at most.

Adding Eichel helps the odds that 4 all star players are firing at once given he is more consistent than Marner. Still a very solid surrounding cast with more playoff success around them now to help the big 4 succeed.

That's a cup team if I've ever seen a cup team
Play each line 18minutes of 5v5 and just play Matthews and Eichel across from each other for the full 2minutes of PP...

With Eichel and Matthews Toronto and Edmonton could potentially both have 2 of the top 5 players in the world in 2 years

LA takes that and runs. so marner has a bad playoff series and his value plummets after finishing top 5 in points...

I think this would have been fair value for manner a year ago as well. You are getting a player drafted 5th overall two years ago who can form the centerpiece of a package for Eichel that actually gives Buffalo the youth I'd assume they want. Iafallo with $2M retained is very valuable, that's 4 years at $2M for a solid two-way winger who is an analytics darling and definitely a top 6 winger. And Brown had 31 points in 49 games last year and has captained the Kings to the cup twice. He brings a lot to the team that they don't have without sacrificing all hopes of production as we did with Simmonds. I think this is the creativity Dubas will need to pull off the trade, we get a top prospect, a 2nd liner winger on a super value contract, and a veteran forward with 1y left to balance the cap.

Value-wise, thats a pretty competitive offer for Puljujarvi. I just don't think the Oilers do it. JP has great top 6 potential which is what we need. And he's cheap. I like Kerfoot, so maybe there is a separate deal to be made, but I don't think we really need Holl. I thought Leaf fans were really high on him???

I am really high on both Holl and Kerfoot. I just think we need to be giving Edmonton so significant pieces to get JP out of Edmonton. I feel with the loss in the playoffs Holland will look at the 3C positing and top 4D and will want to shake up the top 6 forwards a bit. But given that he didn't move on from him through all the holdouts, its clear he sees value in JP longterm. I think this deal may be just a bit too good to pass up on for Holland. (Could be wrong tho, don't have the Edmonton perspective you do)

Yea from all I've seen of Holl and Kerfoot (plus the pick), definitely an overpay for JP straight up. But as of right now, the Oilers #1 need is top scoring and JP is apart of the solution. Don't see Holland looking to part with him anytime soon
