Description
Traded Marner and Rielly for a couple packages, each including at least one single player better than they are who cost much less, plus high potential young D. The firsts are a little optimistic but just whatever picks you want to sub in and the deal is still worth it. Signings are mostly very underrated bargain players.
Oh, yea, and I signed Hamilton out of FA.

this team deserves relegation to the AHL for having pierre engvall in the top 6

Flames decline. Reilly is a rental. Mangiapane isn't for trade

To put it lightly, that Calgary deal is suboptimal for the Flames.

You just turned the leafs into a debatable lottery pick team.

Engvall is a pretty decent player, but the idea is to optimize deployment by spreading talent around without leaving gaping holes. Totally fine to have him there.

Debate whether you can make the moves or not, but this team is obviously better than this year's edition, which I think was quite possibly they're best team ever. Dumb comment.

Doesn't mean they wouldn't do it. Teams pay a lot for middling D. Would have been much easier to trade for Andrew a year ago, but CGY D situation is getting dicey, and Sutter seems not to care for Valimaki. Rielly is pitched as a longer term solution and he's an Alberta guy, I think.

They might very well, but Rielly here would be pitched as a longer term solution to their D corps. It's not that crazy of a deal and they seem not to care much for Valimaki. Honestly, I'd do it for Mangiapane straight up but I think you could squeeze more out of them.

Flames aren't doing that for one year of Reilly. And the Sabres aren't either. Sabres would be better trading Reinhart for assets, keeping Jokheri, their lottery pick for next season, and having 11m in cap to spend elsewhere instead of Marner

They wouldn't trade Valimaki for Mark Stone why would they trade him for Reilly? Also Mangiapane has made himself much more untouchable during the tournament going on

I've loved Mangiapane for about four years now, but if your opinion is changing about anyone because of their play in the Worlds then you shouldn't bother having strongly held opinions about player value.

Rielly deal based on an extension. The Sabres would probably be delighted to trade for Marner without burning Eichel in the deal, and Reinhart wants out anyways. If they love Jokiharju so much, why don't they use him?

Not trading him for Stone was idiotic, but you bring it up as evidence that they would behave rationally now? Sutter stopped using Valimaki already. If he's staying he'd probably love to acquire Rielly.

Even with an extension the Flames say no without having to give it much thought. The first, sure, I get that, but Valimaki and Mangiapane and no bueno for Reilly.

Not playing a rookie every game does not mean youve given up on them.

Extensions? Mostly silly talk. I want to hear the discussion the Leafs have with Reilly. "We want your ass outta town, so hurry up and sign an extension, forgo your UFA next summer, just so we can trade you to Calgary." And when Reilly says no, that's so great for the Leafs and Reilly playing his last year as a Leaf.

I think any team you are talking to about Rielly would be willing to give up more if an extension were a part of it. It would be stupid not to discuss that with teams to maximize value and obviously Rielly has some say in the matter. Takes a real brainiac to note the latter, though, so thanks for the comment. Yes, Rielly would have some say in signing an extension. Leafs should totally give up on that, then, as all teams naturally would!

I joined in 2016, BUD, (though who would care?) and tbh I don't care where Rielly is from. Doesn't really change what I'm saying. Keep popping in to tell people, "this ain't it," though, it's a very hip thing to say and sounds very natural coming from you. Adds a lot to the thread, thank you!

I realize you joined in 2016, but you have 3 threads and 17 posts so you're still relatively new. Anyways, everyone on here said what I was going to say already. And you said this in your explanation...

''Traded Marner and Rielly for a couple packages, each including at least one single player better than they are who cost much less''

why would another team want a worse more expensive player than what they are giving up? Everyone on here is telling you it's bad, I'm not sure what you're not getting.

good work you signed a player who took more money to be in NJ, getting Mangiapane doesn't help much he's decent but I think you are overrating him. If your gonna trade rielly get a better return, I don't care about a mid to late first-rounder another Travis Dermott and Mangi for him. half the players you got would never sign and took more money
