OOOF. San Jose has a reputation of signing bad contracts like Burns, Jones, Karlsson, and Vlasic.

Vlasic was a elite defender for the signing; guy made the Olympics with little point production - means something

Jones was elite (not actually elite), but he was a top tier goalie - discussed in his prime as one of the best in the league

Karlsson - we know the story

Burns - not a bad contract - still worth playing, maybe 2 mil overpaid by but he’s still worth the buck

Just bad luck. 1 good run near the end plus the WCF in 19 made everything even more unlucky

The Sharks were a model franchise for basically 2 decades. Only person to blame is no one imo. Yes Wilson should still get criticism but I mean; did he not provide the team the bets opportunity to win?

The Sharks just fell off a cliff after losing to St. Louis in 2019. That was so disappointing.

Jones was elite, but only in the playoffs. All of the defensemen's deserved what they got in a sheltered context and the GM didn't have the leverage, they were all going on the decline and they cashed in because of what they accomplished so far rather than what they'll accomplish later in their career's.

Well let’s say 2019 went poorly or even just a first round loss; things would have been drastically different right.

They sniffed the finals again (2016->2019); I doubt any franchise would decide they shouldn’t run it back. Just poor timing and bad luck.

Many people blame Wilson but I think that’s a naive thought process.

Criticism is deserved but he did his job right - with Karlsson’s contract being the only real whiff imo (as I wouldn’t have offered any long term - I woulda gave him the AAV sure but no term).

That’s when you want your goalie to be their best tho. Good season play - unreal playoffs compared to it.

If you guys fall short of Kuemper would you be interested in Dobby? He's a pretty solid backup who's a great playoff performer, and he could be cheap.

OK, I did defensemen and goalies yesterday, now let's do Top 25 Forwards:
1) Connor McDavid
2) Nathan McKinnon
3) Sidney Crosby (Some would argue he's lower at this stage of his career, but IMO he's still so complete a player both offensively and defensively)
4) Nikita Kucherov
5) Leon Draisaitl
6) Aleksander Barkov (I hate the Panthers, but Barkov is a freakish defender-second best forward in that regard behind Bergeron-and he was on pace to score 100+ this year)
7) Patrick Kane
8) Auston Matthews (I hate him so much, a pox on him and his stupid Leafs, thank you Canadiens for knocking him out in the first round)
9) David Pastrnak
10) Artemi Panarin (When healthy, he's elite as they come-he was 3rd in the league in PPG (amongst skaters to play 30 or more games), scored 58 in 42 games)
11) Mark Stone
12) Sebastian Aho
13) Mikko Rantanen
14) Brad Marchand (Would be higher, but struggles defensively and takes too many penalties)
15) Brayden Point
16) Mitchell Marner
17) Mathew Barzal
18) Patrice Bergeron
19) Jonathan Huberdeau
20) Ryan O'Reilly
21) Anze Kopitar
22) Mark Scheifele
23) Nicklas Backstrom
24) Alex Debrincat (Underrated as they come, 56 points in 52 games and just 12 penalty minutes)
25) Kirill Kaprizov
Just missed the cut: Gabriel Landeskog, Kyle Connor, David Perron, Jake Guentzel, Max Pacioretty, Alex Ovechkin, Mika Zibanejad

Definitely. Our downfall every playoff has been consistent goaltending. I just wish we kept Ned because it seems every team that wins a cup needs a top notch goaltender and Ned may have turned into that if he kept getting better.

Jeez I just came home from walmart and saw that Fleury got traded. Funny how all of the good stuff happens during the small part of my day that I leave the house.

Did you mean to put a period/exclamation point instead of a question mark? Because I didn't say he was, I said he isn't. I think his defensive abilities are mediocre at best.

OH MY GOD-VEGAS TRADED FLEURY???!!!
HOW?! LOOK, I GET HE'S 36, BUT HE JUST FREAKING WON THE VEZINA. He's still one of the best in the game. To trade him away for nothing but Mikael Hakkarainen is insane.
