Why are analytics broken for Dallas and Minnesota?

For Dallas, Jamie Benn is still a superstar, Blake Comeau should win the Selke, John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen are both hot garbage, Anton Khudobin doesn’t belong in the NHL and Radek Falsa is the worst payer in the league along with a Minnesota player to be named shortly

For Minnesota, Jordan Greenway is the other worst player in the league, Eriksson Ek should win the Hart, Marcus Foligno is an elite talent, the entire 4th line should be a 1st line, Jared Spurgeon should win the Norris and Kaapo Kahkonen is the NHLs worst goalie

I like analytics as a tool to be used but some of the stuff I’ve seen in the last week or so has made me question their validity. Just mind bogglingly incorrect things. Like Valeri Nichushkin and Nic Hague being superstars. I guess people make mind bogglingly incorrect takes all the time as well so there’s no perfect tool but I just don’t know what to think after I read stuff like that. I saw today that David Perron is incompetent offensively after he posted 4 seasons super close to a point per game. Like wtf. And that Patrick Kane was a middle 6 winger last year. I’ll continue to use them and just take their information with a grain of salt but how can people sware by these things and say their complete undeniable fact and discard your opinion if you disagree after reading things like that

Matthews is not a big points guy. He is a goal scorer. So if he meant outscore by means of goals per season then yes Matthews would probs score more. But if were looking at total point production including assists then no except for Draisaitl.

So dont be expecting him to win the Art Ross unless he has a career season in points other than goals.

McDavid is doubtful but the other 2 are entirely possible if we’re just talking point scoring. He outscored MacKinnon last year, albeit in 4 more games

Agree, they use the word hyperbole extremely.

They avoid any sort of context at all. Like the argument of Drai vs Nichushkin is that Nichushkin has better stats therefore he’s better, but Drai won the Hart 2 years ago while Nichushkin got bought out 3 years ago.

Using stats is good, but you can’t try to argue the fact that a top 10 player is worst than a 3rd line two way forward. If you want to use stats to compare O’Reilly and Couturier I get, but don’t try to compare Blake Comeau to Connor McDavid.

Analytics are good in certain areas but should not be used in their entirety. Like sometimes analytics say a player sucks, he joins a new team and all of a sudden everything clicks and bam his stats go way up.

Then you get cases where analytics are unexplainable

Yes he did, but on his account it says he’s only 13… so I’m sorry, but I didn’t take it too seriously. McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon will definitely out score Matthews! They are way better at getting points. Now yes, Tavares is not a top 5 center man… not even close. I would say he is probably top 15! I would have to check all the center men, but he may be.
