At the beginning of the offseason I made a list of players I thought would retire from the NHL that included Nate Thompson, Brad Richardson, Craig Anderson, Joe Thornton and Zdeno Chara. Oh I was wrong.

"I'd love to meetup [play] with him [Quinn] some day. Now that we have Luke, I don't see myself leaving New Jersey for a while, but if Quinn ever wanted to come [to New Jersey]. we'd welcome him with open arms" - Jack Hughes on the possibility of welcoming Quinn Hughes to the Devils in the future

"In the terms of my game, my game is right there. Aside from the points, I dominated at times last year, and if I just keep going with the game that I was playing, and finish plays off, I'm gonna be in a really good spot this year. I'm gonna be a special player in the NHL" - Jack Hughes on his style of play

"I wanted to text Fitzy every day like We gotta take Luke but I wanted it to happen naturally, and I'm glad it did. It was a great night" - Jack Hughes on hoping the Devils look Luke Hughes on draft night

For no good reason other than to drive home what an absolutely phenomenal player Steven Stamkos was in his prime (he's still terrific, but not on this level), check this out. Holy freaking smokes.

Zdeno Chara is the only Big 4 athlete older than Tom Brady.

He and Thornton are the only active Big 4 athletes to have played in the 90s.

Will he though? The only special teams unit he was on in Washington was the PK unit, he never appeared once on the PP (although he obviously was a fixture of it in Boston).

I think what all the Hughes bros need to do is learn to be a bit less cocky. Between this and Quinn claiming he deserved the Calder over Makar (he didn't), a little humility would probably go a long way. Then again, this also looks like it could be a tweet quoted verbatim from a Devils beat writer, so maybe they just need to stay off social media lmao

Not really

Hughes was dominant offensively towards the end of the season. He generated so many quality scoring plays but couldn't get the puck in the net

I agree that both of them are cocky but it makes sense that they should be confident

If the reported ask Quinn who he thinks should win the Calder, Quinn shouldn't say "Makar should win the Calder" even though he knew Makar would win

I don't agree on that last point for two reasons: 1) As I understand it, Hughes was asked this AFTER Makar had already won. It's one thing to campaign for yourself before the voting, but don't be a sore loser after the fact. 2) Even before the voting, the classy thing to do (even if he truly believed that he deserved it more) is to praise the other, the same way Patrick Kane was asked halfway through this past year if he thought he should be a Hart finalist, to which he laughed and responded "No chance, McDavid's head-and-shoulders above the rest of the league" (paraphrased).

I agree that you should praise your "opponent" but still have confidence that you should win

Everything that Hughes said was completely reasonable, but him saying it about himself is absolutely bonkers. He comes off as extremely full of himself.

Do you see Connor McDavid or anyone else in the league saying that they’re dominant and special players? No, because you sound crazy when you pump your own tires like that.
