OK, temporary final list:
Top 20 D-men in the league right now, IMO:
1) Victor Hedman (Period. This is a fact.)
2) Jaccob Slavin (I will defend this tooth and nail. He's elite as they come, takes practically 0 penalties (1 in 52 games!!!), had a +/- of 22, and gets practically all of his points at even strength. He's a freaking beast.)
3) Roman Josi (He slipped just a bit this year, but even then still was terrific. He's a Norris candidate almost every year)
4) Cale Makar (I think he's somewhat of a beneficiary from playing with MacKinnon and Co. so often, but he's still fantastic)
5) Dougie Hamilton
6) Alex Pietrangelo
7) Charlie McAvoy
8) John Carlson
9) Adam Fox
10) Kris Letang
11) Shea Theodore
12) Jonas Brodin
13) Jakob Chychrun
14) Miro Heiskanen
15) Jeff Petry
16) John Klinberg
17) Morgan Reilly
18) Aaron Ekblad
19) Mark Giordano
20) Thomas Chabot
Just missed: Brett Pesce (Incredibly underrated)

Disappointed the Canadiens didn't qualify Blandisi.

Wasn’t Blandisi already a UFA? Happy MB qualified Lehkonen, I thought he maybe wouldn’t

Blandisi was UFA

As for Lehkonen, they're apparently working on a multiple-year deal that could take some time to get done. A qualifying offer keeps him away from UFA in the meantime.

Chabot should probably be higher, as should Theodore, Fox>Carlson and I personally believe Makar should be 1 but I understand if anybody still has Hedman at 1.

Dzinger18 wouldn’t it be funny if you guys signed Honka to get another Finnish player and to create another family reunion.

I'd actually love it not only because we'd get yet another Finn, but also because we could reunite him an Anttoni like you said. That could be a solid AHL top 4 d pair. I honestly think it would be good for the team too since we'd acquire some D depth.

If you want to know more about Paquette he does literally nothing, and only scores when you're up by 3 or more goals. His shifts are usually under 30 seconds and he hits any moving target.

Finally someone recognizes Slavin. Thank you for realizing how good he actually is. It pleases me to see him finally ranked at least in the top 5 d in the league.

He's also decent at 5v5 defense, but it does not make up for being virtually useless at everything else. His birthplace was probably his most attractive aspect for MB, but I would have preferred Frédérick Gaudreau if that was the point.

Literally the only reason Montreal is targeting Savard and especially Paquette is because they are french and Danault is likely gone, leaving Drouin (who might also want out) as the only french player on the team. Having nobody who can answer questions from the french media would be inexcusable.

I would not say it's the "only" reason for Savard, but I agree for Paquette. A cup-winning right-shot defenseman would definitely be of interest for at least half the general managers across the league.

Drouin is expected to be back for training camp.

Well giving Lucchini a QO would be a bit redundant considering he’s already signed a contract with Laval.

Yeah with Weber likely gone for the year it makes more sense, it didn’t make any sense to me for him to get brought in for the 3rd pair though, as he’ll demand a decent amount of term/aav on the open market and likely get bigger minutes elsewhere (for example, Ottawa could probably offer 4-5 mil over 4-5 years and would slap him on the top pair alongside Chabot). Prior to the Weber injury he woulda been the 3rd pair guy, which makes no sense. Paquette is 100% because he’s french, their 4th line was good this playoffs without Tatar/Drouin in the lineup and Poehling is nipping on the periphery, Paquette doesn’t make a whole lotta sense on face value given he hasn’t been that great since leaving Tampa. Is Drouin gonna remain a Hab next year d’you think? I woulda thought they’d look into moving him regardless this off-season, obviously the break was his business but he hasn’t been the best fit in Montreal anyway imo.
