Realistic Offseason - Competitive n Cap managed

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Canucks need a RHD more than anything right now. The team is also in a good position to trade next years first rounder if need be to fill this need. Manson is likely available from the Ducks for the right package, guessing the asking price is a 1st round pick. Fair value here IMO.

They also need a 3rd line center. With Petey hurt Miller showed he can drive his own line as an NHL centerman. He mentioned in his post season presser he enjoys playing in a matchup role and at center sees the ice better. Miller is a likely choice for the 3C to build a 3rd line that can score. Which is what Benning says he wants.

The Seattle trade is also more than fair, one year of Louies cap hit with his bonus payment already being paid by the Canucks prior to them drafting him. The 40th overall will help this organization build a strong prosepct pool right out of the gate. That pick may even be enough to get the trade done, but Ive included Gadjovich as insurance.

I cant see Jim wanting to delay wiping his books clean of all bad money on the roster. So buying out anyone doesnt make sense. The books are somewhat clean by the end of next season with this scenario.

Virtanen is Jims boy, if he is is cleared, Jim will give him another chance. I cant see many having interest in him either. Holtby leaves too much money on the books the following year to buyout. Roussel is in the same boat, better buried or could be on the roster if needed. Virtanen is really the only buyout candidate, but is Jim gonna buy out his own former top 10 pick? Doubt it.

An offseason like this makes the team competitive next season, and leaves the team in a good position for next offseason with tons of cap flexibility to push this team to the next level.

Im not counting on it, more speculating on what I think Benning will do. Jimbo chose him over Toffoli essentially. I wouldnt put it past Jim to double down on Jake to try and salvage that situation.

I hear what youre saying, my evaluation is lower as well. But i think since theyre a divisional rival we may need to bend in their direction to pry him loose. What would be your offer?

1st round picks should never be traded for another player unless a team is adding to win the Cup, which the Canucks are not
unless the 1st pick gets you an elite, under 25 player with term or years left of team control, NOT MASON

Vancouver is not in a position to be offering picks and/or sweeteners to ANY TEAM to get rid of players. Bury LE in minors.
