No chance Devils touch Trouba's contract, even with retention.

The only trade here that isn't horrible for the Rangers is Pat Maroon

Very interesting and unique AGM

I think it works mostly and a neat way to proceed

Trouba the sticking point yeah with NJ needing to re-sign all their RFAs in upcoming years it's tough but maybe BUF take it if Okposo was included in return

That's quite harsh

Non ideal maybe for sure

What basis is there for being so certain and intense

Devils have more cap space than we do, so instead of retaining Trouba, we send a prospect with Trouba.

Send one of Schneider or Lundqvist as incentive to take Trouba and Devils will take that deal.

How has PLD looked in playoffs? I have always felt like he had another level in him.

1. Buch is a much more value-oriented wing than Marner, likely getting around half the cap hit and providing a high level defensive game

2. Trading Kakko makes little to no sense unless you are getting a definite star center back. Dubois's time in Winnipeg brings into question if he's even a true top liner, let alone a star

3. While Trouba's contract is murky, he's still a quality NHL player and paying him 1.5M to not be on your team for the next 5 years is a horrible idea

Why does every Armchair-GM team involving the Leafs include trading one of the Leafs Big 4, especially Marner (after he was in the Top 4 for overall points)?

Did you watch any Jet or Leaf games this Postseason?

You just traded away a lot of major assets for 2 of the most invisible Forwards from either team. And a ton of Cap.

Dubois had a crappy Season overall, after whining his way out of Columbus. And as good as he is in the Regular Season, this is the 3rd year in a row that Marner was sub par in the Playoffs.

Cap is precious to me. Rather not squander it on a few big name players who aren't worth it at the moment.

I get what your saying with Dubois struggling but I think reuniting him with Panarin can continue to help him grow, not mentioning the fact that he is only 22.

In the case of Marner, I think there was way too much pressure on him to perform well that it got into his head. Say what you want but I think like most people do that if one of the leafs big 4 is moved its him. I just can't see teams putting that much emphasis on a few playoff rounds. McDavid is the perfect example he's made it out of the 1st round once and thats it.

An underachieving winger that Winnipeg has no need of and a rental 3C doesn't get you near PLD.

While true that Marner could snap out of it, it reinforces my point that Cap is precious.

Hockey success is derived from depth. It's not the NBA, where you rely on 1 player to carry the team.

As much Premier talent the Oilers and Leafs have on their Rosters, they always fail in the Playoffs.

Why? Because that top notch talent takes up so much money, there is none left to reinforce the remaining Roster around them. Especially with this new trend of having to lock everyone up on a Megadeal after their ELC expires.

Rangers already have big money invested in Panarin, Trouba and Kreider. Fox, Zibenejad and Shesterkin will probably get nice extensions. And then you have to worry about Lafreniere (possibly) in the not so distant future.

Money can get out of hand real quick. Having Marner on the Roster doesn't do much to help that issue.

A big problem with Toronto and Edmonton is that they are very top heavy teams with no depth the bottom 6. That i can agree with you on

In terms of cap you limit Zibanejad to no more than 7.5 and if he wants more you let him walk and move up Chytil.
I'm not sure how much Dubois would want but it could not be more than 7.
Fox is looking at a minimum 8 unless he wants to take a discount. I think it would be tight but you could make it work.

If not you could just undo the Toronto trade and resign Buch and trade Georgiev somewhere else. But my bug problem with Buch is that he's going to want at least 6 and I would not want to pay him that

Agree with all of it. Buch may very well get moved for that exact reason (unfortunately), but for more cost controlled assets.
