So We Can Pump the Brakes on Some of these Kreider and Trouba Trades Again

Created by: Shakabakes

Description
Drives me nuts to see random trades thrown out there involving Kreider and Trouba. 2 players...on hefty Contracts...with full NTC's. They aren't moving anywhere, if they don't want to. Which probably means they aren't moving at all. Yet, people still including them on numerous ACGM posts, not taking that into account.

I actually already made one post on this issue awhile back... https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2391639

Trouba isn't going anywhere. Larger Contract of the 2, and specifically wanted NY to be near his wife/fiance.

With Kreider, I think there are only 2 spots he would consider waiving for. One is his hometown of Boston (though after acquiring Hall, I see them sticking with him instead), and the other is Colorado (1 of the Top 3 teams in the league, who may be looking for help on the Wings).

Outside of that, these 2 aren't going anywhere for about 3 more years. Stop including them in trades. Stop the madness.

You mention Colorado in your description for Krieder but if you think they need help on the wing, Toronto is a good fit for him too. A perfect fit actually. I could see them making calls if he's available.

It wont be Colorado now either, as they arent looking for help on the wings, the opposite to be honest. They can not take on any sort of Cap or Term
That ship has sailed

Thanks for the your analysis.
Just to add, players with M NTCs in all likelihood don't have teams with non playoff teams cap space on their trade list.

THANK YOU

The only thing I disagree with is Kreider to Colorado.

A good point, just not sure if he would waive to go there. Especially with the lack of Playoff success they keep having.

Trouba would move but you hit it on the head it is tied to his wife. Last I heard she was in FLA, so I would assume he would take a trade to FLA. Kreider just makes to much money for to long for him to waive to anywhere he would accept, just saying that because he is the more tradeable of the 2.

Players can always be taken back to help facilitate the money in a trade, but I get your point. It is harder with Cup contenders.

To play with Matthews, I think he would. I'm not sure how much Toronto would kick the tires on a deal with Krieder being 30 and having 7 more years on his deal left though. It might be more of a desperate move if Hyman doesn't stay. Think it's a long shot but still a possibility though.

Wow, right over your head lol. Exactly the opposite of this NMC 101 post.
Popular UFAs "finally" get choices with NMC/NTC and favor either: Cap, Cup, Destination. For Kreider, it's destination. Hence 0% chance he goes to Canada or not NY.
Why does everybody keep posting duds?!?

& did you ask Krieder that yourself? Or did you read his mind and know that? ... because a chance to play with Matthews and Marner is a pretty intriguing place to be. Not to mention they have a roster that could contend each season of Krieder's deal (I bet you insert some pathetic first round chirp here - not realizing that when they do get out of the first round they're likely to go deep). Chances are Toronto doesn't touch that horrendous contract anyways, I said it was only worth exploring.

But why does everyone keep posting like they know the player?!

I'll make sure to check with you next time I have a Krieder question so you can ask him personally for me.

Lol. No I didn't have to use a lifeline, because commonsense kicked in... the NMC that he fought for.
& why would the most desperate team in NHL, the 4 headed cap monster TML, pick up a 7x6.5m W???

Well your "common sense" is pretty bad. Tons of players have fought for NMC before and moved them. It's not usually about where they're moved to, players can be convinced pretty easily to waive. It's moe about not surprising them with a trade and then they have to uproot their families and move. But please, tell me how Milan Lucic didn't waive his NMC after signing with a team to play with the best player in the world. Or Marc Staal didn't waive his NMC to go to one of the worst teams in the league..

& as I literally said: "Chances are Toronto doesn't touch that horrendous contract anyways, I said it was only worth exploring." Because they're losing a top 6 left handed winger and will be in need of one. Which is why I said it was worth exploring, not necessarily doing. Learn to read next time.

Lucic and Staal we're buyout material with no options. Kreider & others with big long terms are a different animal. Again, common sense. I filter what I read luckily.

"buyout material" yet neither one was bought out... hmm, good logic there though!

...thanks to that 1 team willing to take them on, otherwise they'd have been bought out if they had not waived. You'll catch on lol

If they were really buyout material then why didn't Detroit buy out Staal when they had tons of cap space? & how was Lucic buyout material if his cap hit still would have been between $3.5M - $5M per season for 3 seasons, then drops to lower cap hits? And that's just for Calgary. You can add another $700K on those for Edmonton too so if Edmonton bought him out then it's a cap hit between $4.2M - $5.7M ... that's a lot of dead cap space for 3 seasons. I mean if you wanna operate your team in a terrible way, that's the way!

But maybe you'll eventually catch on.

... No sh*t Sherlock lol. Bought out by Edm and NYR, unless they found a sucker. Det figured Staal would be a good temp vet leader @2.2m, hence only a 3.5m useable dump. Of course DET weren't going to buy Staal out lol. Slow down and read, please! Nose was dumped for the only solution, a different dump in James "bad deal" Neal.
