SJ Offseason with Realistic Trades and Key FA Additions Danault Armia Rinne Ryan

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2021
Published: Jun. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Key caveat of this roster is Rinne's 1-year deal. Rinne on a 1-yr deal with a higher cap than expected to compensate the lack of 2-year deal makes sense.

The reason for why that's important is that Rinne's 4mil + Ryan's 2mil opens up an additional 4mil (once their roster spots are filled with ELCs) for Hertl and Ferraro's extensions.

Trades

SEA
  1. Burns, Brent
  2. Gambrell, Dylan [RFA Rights]
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (SJS)
2.
SJS
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (ARI)
WSH
  1. Donato, Ryan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Before Caps fans come in with the "Caps decline", proposal taken from a Caps fan:

3.
PHI
  1. 2021 5th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Proposal from PHI fans range from a 4th to 6th rounder for Braun, so taking a 5th as the average of that:

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2450807

4.
WPG
  1. Meloche, Nicolas [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
WPG fans have been shipping off DeMelo either for a 3rd/4th...

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2445760

... or have him going to SEA in the expansion and sometimes even paying SEA with an additional 3rd to ensure they take him and not Appleton:

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2419551
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2410785
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2443444
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2445760

Another cited reason is that it'd be good to replace DeMelo with a younger cheaper RHD for the bottom pairing. Taking all this into account, Meloche and a 4th going back to WPG is fair value according to all these proposals.
5.
SJS
  1. 2022 4th round pick (NYI)
NJD
  1. Simek, Radim
Additional Details:
I have Simek going to any team for just about anything (4th/5th) simply because of the logjam at LHD for SJ with Kniazev knocking on the door too. He's still 28 and a decent 3rd pairing defensive guy. Would be a great fit in NJ but if not anywhere else would do and there'd be a team who picks him up for a mid-rounder.

As much as I would like Rinne to retire a Pred, if he gets an offer like that then he should definitely take it. I can't see NSH offering anything over $2m on a 1 year deal.

there are Capitals fans trading Kuzy to Seattle for a 2nd round pick dont listen to them they are clearly butt hurt he got COVID. Donato is really intriguing and well worth a 3rd + AHL goalie making 1m

Not commenting on your trade itself, but it's crazy to me that Jets fans are trading or exposing DeMelo. His elevation to the top pairing was the key reason for sweeping Edmonton outside of Hellebuyck, and his absence against Montreal has been so noticeable.

I think the Jets will try to add a big physical Top 4 RHD this summer but I don't seem them letting DeMelo go

That's kinda why I went all out with providing armchair GM references from Jets fans. Crazy to me too.

Devils LHD depth now is

Ty Smith
Bahl
Butcher
Murray
Mukhamadullin
Siegenthaler
Edwards

And possibly a draft pick in 2021.
We may be good unless we move Butcher and let Murray walk.

Don’t disagree but isn’t the idea of trading/exposing DeMelo to keep Stanley? That’s kind of what I’ve heard. Now whether he’s worth keeping over DeMelo I don’t know but from that standpoint it sort of makes a bit more sense.

Gonna be honest the only thing I really like here is getting Demelo back and Copley as a backup

Jets fans who actually think Demelo is the problem, I have no clue what they are seeing out their. He was our 2nd best defenceman this year.

Stanley was sheltered on the 3rd pairing all year, I don't think Seattle will take him. Especially if Appleton is exposed and the Jets don't make a deal. Sacrificing DeMelo to keep Stanley sets the Jets defence even further back than it already is
