This is still a very good team

Created by: Grapevine

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2021
Published: Jun. 8, 2021

Description
They looked good for large portions of the game tonight. Obviously the end result is all that matters but even if we lose this series there is still a very good team that can come back and contend next year.

The Bruins wouldn’t do this but if they offered this package for bailey the isles should take it and run

I know you hate on bailey but didnt you also sh*t on leddy before the season and look what happened. Baileys a consistent 50 point scorer who elevates his game in the playoffs.

Hate bailey? Now you’re reaching - bailey is a good 3rd liner , he is better in the playoffs but he’s 32 years old and there’s this thing called cap space. Would you rather trade some young players for draft picks and run this team into the ground even more?

Btw I was right about leddy. After a hot start to the season he fell off a cliff and ended the season as a replacement level defenseman. Toews was a Norris caliber defenseman...yeah I was definitely wrong 🤔

No to the Bailey trade. He's a big part of what's probably the best 2nd line in hockey. And we're not re-signing Palmieri. He's a pure rental unless he wants to come back on a really cheap deal.

I'd take him cheap on NYI. He'd be a good fit with Pageau and Wahlstrom.

If those two are playing in the AHL, sure,. Have you not watched this series man? The guy can’t play.

He's fine. I don't see him as a liability, but obviously I'm watching the game from a different lens than you.

Didnt say anything about toews so idk why that came up bc i 100% agree w you there. In terms of leddy idk, a 45 point season is a pretty damn good season for a defenseman. And if youre 3rd liners are all 50 point players, youve got a dynasty team. "Good 3rd liner" good 3rd liner my ass.

There’s a lot more to evaluating players than points buddy. Leddy doesn’t drive play offensively and he has one of the worst defensive impacts in the league. There’s a reason why his WAR(wins above replacement) is 0.

Blake wheeler had 46 pts in 50 games this season and had a 3rd line impact. Evaluating players using only points is ridiculously stupid . Bailey does not drive play at either end of the ice, you should go look at his numbers when he’s away from Anthony Beauvillier .

You could bring all your fancy analytics and thats fine, but you dont get a defenseman scoring 45 points by accident. You wanna use your war and play driving to say hes not as good as a 45 point dman, fine no problem, but to say he hasnt been good is complete crap.
I feel like youre falling into the same trap as a lot of others with the whole advanced stats and analytics thing. They are great when used in moderation, but when people start using it for everything it doesnt work. How many of these analytic models have gotten the isles right since trotz took over? Even only for one season? Analytics arent god.

Do you live in a box? We're not in 2015 anymore, the teams that heavily use analytics are among the best teams in the league. The avalanche and the lighting are the two biggest users of analytics in the league. Are they falling into a trap? They don't use them in moderation either.

The isles were a top 10 analytics team in the league this season - they were top 5 in expected goals for half of the season.

Lets see why Nick Leddy is putting up more points this season.

2019-20
.43 secondary secondary assists per 60 min

2020-21
secondary assists:
.79 assists per 60 min

Congrats to Nick Leddy for having more secondary assists this season - by the way secondary assists is not a repeatable skill for defenseman so you can pretty attribute his increased point production to luck.

Lots of pointless numbers that don’t mean much there
