New Be-Leaf

Created by: MauriceArthur15
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2021
Published: Jun. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a new look Leafs team with significant changes.

Troy Terry comes over, and more.

Morgan Rielly blockbuster whereas Toronto get Walker and Villardi. LA is stacked down the middle with Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Thomas and Kopitar. They also get a 1st round pick Metinen who’s a great rw prospect and Rielly signs an extension 6.5x7. They also still have cap space to be big players in free agency this year and next year.

This move for Toronto brings on something CJ was hinting at when it comes to JT as he gets older. JT is more than likely going to move to the wing like Stamkos and etc. This allows Villardi to learn from a top centre in the league and become one himself.

This also give Toronto cap relief for any deadline acquisitions.

Troy Terry would play #3RW for you behind Marner and Nylander. On our team, he plays #2RW because he's one of only two right-handed RWs we have. That's not a comment on his intrinsic value, but just an acknowledgement of his value to US. Similarly, we have Sam Steel, Isac Lundestrom, Carter Rowney and Benoit-Olivier Groulx for #3C and #4C, but you guys have no one of note behind Matthews and Tavares, so why would you trade Der-Arguchintsev away if he's NHL quality?

We have Abruezzese, Hiroven, Hallander all in the system who are centres. We don’t need SDA. Folingo is comfortable being a centre as he once was in CBJ and earlier in his career. The point is to prep Brooks to take over that role in the future, and with Villardi we move Tavares to the wing like most centres do later in their respective careers.

Also to your point there’s lots of UFAs like that can be targeted at RW position. Or even take Dylan Guenther who’s a right handed winger.

What are you talking about? The fact that you have Abruzzese, Hirvonen and Hallander in the system is meaningless in light of the fact that Der-Arguchintsev is two years ahead of all of them in development. The first two are 5'9" smurfs highly unlikely to have careers in the NHL at centre and both are unsigned, meaning that they won't hit the NHL until the 2023-2024 season at the earliest. Hallander has never played a professional hockey game in North America whereas Der-Arguchintsev has played his ENTIRE developmental period in Canada. We're talking about a possible effect at center this year or next, not "when Brooks takes over that role."

Where you got the idea that "most centers" move to the wing "later in their respective careers" is beyond me, and would be quite surprising to fans of Anze Kopitar, Paul Stastny, Ryan Getzlaf, Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron, to name just a few.

So that's your response to my objection to trading away a guy who plays RW for us now? Draft a guy who'll play for us in a couple of seasons? Or sign a guy out of this year's inch-deep RW pool?

Statsny played the wing this year. Thornton, Spezza, Stamkos just to name a few. CJ even said it. If Brooks got promoted, and us getting Villardi like I proposed why do I need another centre. The core down the board is Matthews, Villardi and Brooks. 4th line centres are available every year in free agency. So why do we need another centre when we have multiple on the way. I didn’t even mention Abramov either. Expect Seguin to move to the win especially without knowing how explosive he gonna be coming back from that injury.

So it’s the Leafs fault for trying to get an undervalued player throughout hockey all because the Anaheim Ducks organization couldn’t draft or sign right wingers.

After that juvenile comment, I won't ever burden you with trying to engage with you on an intellectual level ever again.
