I don’t disagree but you have to also consider they get younger and create cap space

I like the Blues trade. Even though 7 more years of Schenn is rough..lol.

I wouldn’t trade a 24 year old McCann for 1 year of MAF. I would rather sign a vet FA goalie.

I wouldn’t let Ceci walk for 2.5M. I personally wouldn’t go above 2M.

I wouldn’t give up Puustinen in order for Seattle to take Pettersson. They are gonna get a good player. Don’t make it worse.

If they take Blueger, resign Gaudreau and he can center the 4th line/buzz saw line with ZAR and Tanev.

Trading ZAR and Jarry is a mistake for Kassian and a 2nd IMO too. Jarry is a division winning goalie. Just 26 years old. Was a All-Star the year prior. Making just 3.5M.

Kassian is overpaid. I like getting them to retain money. But I would rather Jarry/Driedger or Jarry/F.Andersen and keep McCann.

Pens need acouole tweaks. U can’t overhaul the team. It doenst work like that. Teams that are good, are teams that bring back the majority of the same team.

They get that chemistry together. It’s why it’s hard to repeat. It’s hard keeping a championship team together. Bringing the majority of the same players back.

Steelers defense was really good last year..why??

We brought back 10 out of 11 starters. J.Hargrave went to Phily and T.Alualu replaced him. We had the same defense 2 years in a row. It’s why it was a top defense in the NFL.

Edmonton is overpaying Kassian, but that's not creating an absolute need to move his contract. The Oilers have a good chunk of free cap space this offseason, and can clear even more if they bury salaries (Turris and Russell). If he doesn't retire, Klefbom will remain on LTIR until the middle of next season, and buyouts are possible for both Koskinen and Neal. I just don't think it's realistic to suggest 50% salary retention and a 2nd round pick. Especially given there is a flush market for goaltenders via trade and free agency, and recognizing Aston-Reese doesn't fit the profile of the players Holland is targeting this offseason

There is absolutely ZERO interesting about that blues pens trade. This whole AGM is pretty garbage 😂. Marino >>> Parayko. Parayko had a piss poor year analytically at least and Marino has the age and cap hit advantage. Schenn is way better than Zucker right now but he is on way too long of a contract.
The pens aren’t paying Seattle to take a player. They are going to lose who they lose and live with it. Much less pay Seattle to take a player we don’t have to lose or even expose.
The pens aren’t trading for Fleury...they’ve tried and were unsuccessful. With how fleury is playing they surely aren’t trading him now.
Kassian is pretty crap. The pens surely aren’t trading their young starting goalie and best defensive forward for him.

Issue with Parayko as an asset: not enough term

Issue with Schenn as an asset: too much term

Which is why is feel the trade is bad for PIT

🤨

With McDraisaitl in their prime

Every penny of cap space is crucial

Kassian is basically a rugged AHLer at 3.2M$

Oleksiak, Getzlaf, Driedger. All cost similarly. 😵

Bro... cmon. And Parayko played with a back injury, then sat for weeks. He was fine when he came back from the layoff.

I mean Marino plays 22 plus minutes a night. The point on the 2nd PP unit. Will be the Pens top pairing RHD after Letang retires or gets traded.

He just turned 24 years old in May. Has had 2 very good back to back seasons on a play-off team. With play-off experience already.

Yes, Right now, Parayko > Marino.

But It’s not crazy to say a team would rather Marino over Parayko right now either. Because of the age, potential and salary difference. And Marino being signed long term, 100% makes it Marino.

And Marino has had better seasons than C.Parayko the last 2 years (Marino’s 1st and only 2 seasons).

It’s not a crazy take. Again, I would say Parayko, right now, but in 2 years, probably Marino.

***btw, that wasn’t me that posted that anyways. I just don’t think it’s a completely absurd take like u did.

What??

For a 24 year old McCann.?? 24 year old, top 6/mid 6. Can play Center too in case of injuries.

And DeSmith, a proven capable NHL back-up, 1B goalie. Signed super cheap.

For 1 season of MAF??

You get McCann long term and barely lose any cap
Space next season.

McCann and DeSmith combined make 4.1M.

There's so much wild kookiness here, I don;t even know where to start. I'll just say the Blues are not tearing down a team that just won a Cup two years ago and has been demolished by COVID and injuries ever since. This is not a come pick your favorite part rebuild situation, guys.

?? Ok sure..?? Everything I said was a fact. And It’s not my ACGM. The Pens don’t need a rebuild. One or two tweaks is all.

Parayko > Marino right now.

But again, with Marino signed long term and only just turned 24 years old. It’s 100% Marino > Parayko in a trade.

No way would they make that deal unless we were adding a lot. We don’t have the picks or prospects to get a guy like Schenn

That's not how any of this works. By that logic we'll trade you Crosby for Sandford. Sandford is younger and on a better contract. Parayko and Marino aren't apples to apples. Parayko is a true shut down Dman, with a howitzer of a shot and has better stats. You're trying to say a guy who hasn't even played a full season in the NHL is better than Parayko when during the same tenure Parayko was way better than Marino. Hard Pass.

It’s not a apples to apples comparison.

Sanford doesn’t have the potential to be Sid.

Marino does have the potential to be as good or better than Parayko.

Again Marino has a rifle of a shot too.

He’s the Point on the 2nd PP unit. On a play-off team. Only Letang plays in front him.

Marino plays 20 plus minutes a night.

Signed long term, Parayko is a UFA after this year.

That's a bit over the top and doesn't address the underlying problem with the proposed trade.

Jarry would be a nice acquisition, but there is a reason he is one of the pieces involved in this trade. Driedger, Ullmark, Grubauer, Mrazek, Raanta, Reimer, and Rinne are just some of the UFAs this year. Pittsburgh, NYR, NYI, the Habs, Arizona, and CBJ are some of the teams that may feel pressured to move a goaltender. Aston-Reese appears to be a throw-in, but he doesn't fit the description of what Holland is looking to add to the Oiler roster.

Kassian is not going to be a $3.2M player, and his inconsistency and recent injuries have resulted in him further under performing his salary. However, he still contributes as evidenced by his 2 points and even +/- through a 4-game loss to Winnipeg. It makes more sense for the Oilers to pay Kassian $3.2M to play for them rather than pay him $1.6M to play for Pittsburgh. They can seek a more suitable trade elsewhere, and perhaps circle back to Pittsburgh with a more reasonable counter-offer once they know whether some of their critical needs can be met through free agency.

I mean the stats don’t lie. And the fact that you even state Parayko has recently come back from a back injury arguably kills his value even more.

What are you talking about? Lol Colton Parayko doesn’t have better stats. Analytically Marino is superior to Parayko and Parayko is currently in his prime. Marino likely gets better. They have similar point totals over the past two seasons in similar amount of games lol.

The mere fact that you think raw point totals tell a story here (and again, Parayko just missed weeks of games) demonstrates that you do not understand Parayko's value at all.

It's also worth noting that you keep talking as if Parayko (who is 28) is already on some overt slide into oblivion and Marino (already 24) is some burgeoning young riser that has worlds of potential for growth while flat pretending Marino didn't suffer a major regression this season (despite not having any injury, like some people). Classic stuff, buddy.

Pretending? Only stupid trolls think Marino had some major regression lol. The stats speak for themselves. I’m sorry you don’t understand stats and analytics. And I’m sorry you’re a Homer with Homer glasses you can’t take off. No one said Parayko is going into some overt slide into oblivion. What was said is he is already into his prime, a rental, and going to look for a big long term contract that will take him until he is on the wrong side of 30. Marino is only 24 and signed til he is 30 to a cheaper cap hit than Parayko currently has. Even if Parayko was better, which he isn’t, how in hell would It make sense in a flat cap world for a cap strapped team to make that trade? That’s comical.

First of all, I never said the Pens should make that trade. Not even sure how you got to that idea. Secondly, Marino had half the point total of 19/20 in about the same minutes, fewer blocks, fewer hits, etc etc etc. His analytic numbers were closer to level of the season before, but any observer should be easily able to notice that Marino wasn't quite as good last season as he had been the year before. That's just simple math and it is available for all to see on his stats. So maybe reel in the personal attack angle. It's not just unnecessary, it's demonstrably false.

What regression??

His minutes per game went up. He was put on the ice alot in crucial parts of the game. Not sheltered minutes at all. Was the Point on the 2nd PP unit and played PK too.

Had a better year, taking on a lot more responsibility.
