Hopefully realistic

Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2021
Published: Jun. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Expansion protection list:

F: Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Oshie, Mantha, Sprong, Eller, Wilson
D: Orlov, Carlson, Jensen (lowest cap hit of the three between Dillon and Schultz.)
G: Samsonov

If Ovi wants money, give him $10M over the next two years, and give him 1 year extensions every year until he's done instead of hanging up a huge cap number over the next four years.

Guys on the taxi squad are prospects that could see some NHL time next season. McMichael is pretty likely to spend another year in the AHL, but if he makes the team out of camp, someone will probably be moved out to make room for him.

Also, no Kuznetsov trade. The Caps aren't just going to trade him to trade him. They want a proven 1-2C back in any deal including Kuznetsov, and I doubt there's a team that ponies up that cost.

Trades
1.
WSH
SEA
  1. Leason, Brett
  2. Schultz, Justin
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Leason and a 3rd for Seattle to select Schultz instead of Vanecek. Could sweeten the pot a bit, if needed.
2.
WSH
  1. 2021 7th round pick (SEA)
SEA
  1. Hagelin, Carl
Additional Details:
Anywhere for anything. Dude's still a solid defensive forward, but for nearly three mil/year, it's tough for a cap ceiling team to afford that. Caps also will probably want AJF to replace him.

Just let SEA take V if they want. Isn't worth paying them to take a player. We need all the good prospects and picks we can get.

I wouldn't mind if Seattle took Vanecek, it was more about the cap space for me.

I wouldn't give Leason now. He had a better year and might blow up next year in Hershey. We need that big, RW forward to take Oshie's place in 3 or 4 years.

Leason is slept on. He’s gonna be great for us.

'great' would be great. I hoping for at least top 9. Top 6 is certainly possible. I hope we can get a look for a few games maybe after next year, maybe sooner.
