Copp just had a career year and he makes less than Lowry? and plays 4th line? That's how you get a player to request a trade...

What protection issues does Winnipeg have that they have to give up a first and Niku to take Harkins instead of someone else? Off the top of my head, they should be able to do the 7-3-1 pretty easily.

I lowballed him because he likely takes WPG to Arbitration or gets traded. He took us to arbitration last time.

If I were to guess, the list probably looks like

Scheifele
Wheeler
Ehlers
Dubois
Connor
Lowry
Copp (if they don't trade him)

Morrissey
Pionk
DeMelo

Hellebuyck

Top players exposed:
Appleton
Stanley
Harkins

Most of our other valuable players are either protected (Heinola, Samberg) or are due to become UFAs (Stastny, Forbort, Poolman)

Appleton had a breakout year, Stanley showed major progression as the season went on, that kinda leaves Harkins as the odd man out if Winnipeg wants to protect Appleton or Stanley.

Gotcha, didn't realize Stanley was eligible. Is it really worth a first rounder and Niku to lay off of them though? I know this draft year is pretty weak in the back half of the first round, but I'd imagine you could trade those assets to get an upgrade at those spots pretty easily.

Re: Hamilton, I’m not sure there’s any UFA listening to Scheifele act like a baby in the media right now thinking, « yeah,I’d really like to okay on that guy’s team. »

Keep the first and let them pick one of Stanley or Appleton. The 1st is move valuable.

Until we get to the defence where you have the option between Stanley and DeMelo so I think that’s why he did the trade
