The biggest hole is number one D. Need to track down one of those or hope Schmidt can bounce back. Easier said than done.

I do like the look of that D and the Center depth would really try and move our pick and more cap to get rinehart

I think the organizations hope right now is Hughes develops his deffensive game enough to be a true #1, which is why they brought in a new Defensive coach. Savages is a very low event, solid in his own end d-man. Could be a good short term partner for Hughes while he develops his Defensive side of the puck.

I think sometimes as fans we are too quick to put young players into a specific box, and forget that they can improve the weak areas of their game over time. I know I do this allll the time and I have to remind myself young players Can get better.

Good example is McDavid, who greatly improved his D-Zone play this year to the point where it is about average. I always viewed him as a glass cannon player, who provides all sorts of individual offense but can get caves in against a good team. This year he proved me wrong

I mean, Hughes is SO bad defensively. It’s actually kind of embarrassing, it’s like he doesn’t even care. I think you should lower your expectations a bit. I don’t think there’s a snowballs chance in hell he develops into a true number one. There’s like six of those guys on the planet, and Hughes doesn’t look like he has the makings of an all situations player. If he proves me wrong, it will be one of the biggest turnarounds in league history. Right now, he plays at five on five like a third pair PP specialist. I think if he starts giving a damn about defense, there’s a chance he could develop into a number 2.

He was very good defensively and an easy number 1 literally last season. The entire team was horrendous defensively this year. He definitely needs to work on his defensive game but to say he doesn't have the capabilities to be good defensively is a straight up bad take.

I can't see the team buying out Holtby and taking a 1.9m hit next season. I'd argue they buy out Roussell to give him a chance to play elsewhere next year, and attempt to move Holtby at 50%, or just keep him.

Holtby buyout saves the boat money this year. I can 100% see them being willing to take on 1.9 in dead money next year, since so much dead money is coming off the books after this year

Very good defensively? He’s one of the worst defensive d men in the league. Laughably bad

It’s a tough call. If they do it they better do something worthwhile with the space lol. I don’t mind the build you have above!
