Red wings - what I would like to see none of which will probably happen

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2021
Published: Jun. 10, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Protected List:
Larkin
Vrana
Bertuzzi
Fabbri
Erne
Rasmussen
Smith
Hronek
Cholowski
Dunn
Greiss

If a trade between the blue and wings doesn't happen for Dunn, I would protect Lindstrom over Stetcher just cause of his age and the fact Stetcher is a free agent after this season. I also wouldn't be opposed to offering a mid to late pick just to make sure they took Namestnikov.

For the entry draft
#6 Eklund / Hughes
#9 Wallstedt / Johnson
#23 Pinelli / Bolduc

This is all based on of Vancouver trades their first round pick and if Wallstedt is available. Vancouver only gains a little over 3 million in cap space by buying out Eriksson and roussel.

I can’t see us taking on all those cap dumps, but it sure would be sweet!

I don’t see the canes giving up that much to trade Gardiner. They can buy him out and it only counts 1.4 against the cap. If they are going to cap dump him I’d rather give up more to send him as the expansion pick to Seattle

Buy Frans out. Don't need the cap space but I'd rather give the roster spot to a player who can help us.

As an Oilers fan who wants to see more money freed up for the off season, I would love to see that trade with Edmonton but that is a LOT of money to take on. Timing wise though, only 1 year with Koskinen is okay. Neal, if he can get some of his game back is tolerable. And the draft picks aren't unreasonable an ask for taking those 2 contracts.

Definitely not opposed to that just to get one of the better prospects up there, the cash savings isn't really worth it though.

Koskinen could be bought out too, save 3 mill this year, but I think this would be a better option, unless they end up signing a decent goalie to play with Smith.

Understandable. The canes will move him this off-season it’s almost guaranteed. To me it makes the most sense to pay Seattle handsomely to take him because it clears the cap and protects skjei or bean

I feel they need to, just to protect better guys, and with the second round exit, thinking they will need the cap space. I feel Gardiner could have some value if he improves his defensive game, and although Detroit isn't a good team, they play a pretty defensive style so maybe could get something for him in the future.

I would be willing to give up a bit more, but considering they will lose him for nothing I think it's a pretty good deal

I doubt the blues lose him for nothing. I expect the blues trade a couple forwards to not pick him. And even if that were the case you are essentially proving two trades the Blues have to consider.

1. Trade Dunn for a 2nd and then lose a player like Blais or Sandford in the draft.
2. Trade Sandford and Blais in the draft and keep Dunn.

Which looks like: do we want to give up a player like Blais and a 2nd for Dunn and the answer is yes

Yeah I can't see a couple of the trades but i get the idea and I don't think its a bad idea. I'm all for Dunn. I agree we shouldnt give up anything to Seattle, if they take names or cholo or stecher whoever.

Probably have to trade alot more for them to not take Dunn. Losing Blais would kind of suck for the blues but both him and Sanford are replaceable. At best they are 20 goal scorers in the NHL.

Buying out virtanen makes sense, ltir doesn't kick in until the start of the season so Ferland and beagle will count against the cap until season starts, buying out holtby just gives you another hole to fill, might get a goalie for a mill cheaper maybe. Burying roussel only saves 1.1 mill. Still alot of holes that would need to be filled. I hope they can figure it out as I like the Canucks but it will be tough if they want to be competitive, which I think they expect to be.

It's a bad deal, and there's 30 other teams. Several of them would top that easy.

I'd really like to hear from more Edmonton fans here. For me, I dont know if Edmonton bites on this. They still have a hole at goalie, Griess is not any better than what they have. Giving up 2 picks in 2022 would mean that the first pick for Edmonton would likely be near 85-90th OA. Can't imagine dumping Neal is that important to give up those picks on.

I think 1 2nd rounder would get the Gardiner deal done, however I dont know that Yzerman wants that many years left on salary dumps.

I get that Vancouver is desperate, but 9th overall is a hard one to give up to take some contracts. I disagree with everyone saying they are going to just buyout a couple contracts and also sign Edler to $1-2M deal and Sutter to a $2M deal and it will work.. you end up being a couple players short of a whole roster, no flexibility in the CAP and not enough "able" bodies on the ice. Vancouver Can't make their team better without shedding more than just 1 or 2 contracts. All they can do is sustain where they are at which wont lead to playoffs in the Pacific next year for sure.

I think Edmonton could send a 2023 first or second to fix that problem, Greiss isn't an immediate fix but he is a decent goalie to be a back up. That said I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Greiss and just but out koskinen or have him as a third string goalie. Maybe mentor one of the prospects in grand rapids. I also think Edmonton needs to do something now while their superstars keep up this production, how long can they wait? Can't just sign a bunch of players and expect to win the cup that year.

With the Gardiner deal, I think less could get the deal done, but I think a second and something either a prospect or mid puck does it, svechnikov is just a bonus to them.

Vancouver definitely needs to do something, I don't think they are at risk of losing Hughes or petterson through offer sheets, but Yzerman could definitely use that as a tactic to get s better return. 9th overall is a tough go but the way the Canucks look, next year's could be a better lottery pick as well. Plus the savings of $9 million, they probably still need to buy a contract out just to have a team that competes. I think they feel they need to compete now as well.
