Tuukka Rask

Created by: CMcAvoy73
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2021
Published: Jun. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Spoke to the media today. Torn hip labrum requiring surgery with a 5-6 month recovery. Return to hockey will likely be january or february, and it sounds like he doesn’t really need a contract before then.
He said he wants to keep playing, and he said that he won’t play for any team other than the bruins.

That should put a lot of this retirement/signing elsewhere nonsense to bed.

Definitely sounds like it will be a one year deal

lets be honest tho how much does he have left? realistically this coming year i think is his last of him playing good hockey. whether its swayman or vladar taking over after he's done, getting to learn from rask is gonna be really good for them

Uhhhh why? That ignores kind of every comparable situation we’ve had with goalies. He just turned in a phenomenal season playing with a torn hip labrum. That’s not something that lingers. You get surgery and its fixed. Three more years seems reasonable. Five seems optimistic.

If he wants to come back, which he just said he did, the bruins are thrilled to have him.

definitely and im not saying hes a bad goalie. IF he is fully healthy with no other major issues he can definitely shoulder the load for a little while longer

I guess if it was a groin or something that doesn’t really go away i would agree with you. I think the biggest risk to rask right now is swayman lighting the world on fire in his absence

The good thing about this means that Sway will 100% be BOS starter next year and i truly believe he will be a special goalie for the bruins for a long time. Swayman/Rask duo will be very dangerous. Sweeney found an absolute gem in the 4th round.

I hope so. But he’s played 10 games. Hart played two great seasons and then was the worst goalie in the cap era this past year

Ya you're not wrong, anything can happen with young goalies. You see it all the time. Murray, Binnington, Jones, Subban, etc.. That's why having tuukka around is beneficial for Sway's development. Don't want to overwork him like they did with Hart. PHI don't have a reliable backup who can share the net 50/50 or 60/40.

And that’s why I’m such a big tuukka guy. He’s just been steadily awesome for a decade. The majority of cup winning goalies the last ten years just caught lightning in a bottle and then went back to sucking. Tuukka has always given his team a chance at winning the cup.
