MY CASE FOR TRADING 1OA PICK TO SEATTLE

Created by: Lenny54

Description
2003 was the last time the 1OA pick was traded, is this the right time for the Sabres to trade the 1OA? I went back the last 10 yrs and Bob Mckenzie's #1 ranked prospect has gone 1OA in each year so we will assume Power is going first. Power isn't a generational talent but solid in every area of being a defenseman and is projected to be a top 4 pairing. The Sabres have LD prospects and are in dire need of top 6 forwards so say they look to move down to 2OA.

Seattle...what better way to grab headlines then to draft 1OA their inaugural season and take Power to anchor their defense for the future. The cost, simply let the Sabres pick a player off another teams unprotected list for Seattle to draft in the expansion draft. Maybe the Sabres add a 4th rd pick to the trade.

Seattle makes a splash and the Sabres get their top rated forward in the draft and an established player for their top 6.

Right idea but more likely they'd just make a deal to have Seattle pick a specific player in the expansion draft off the Sabres list.

That is the logical thought but I was looking to hit a home run if I'm trading spots with Seattle. The 4th could sway them away from a said player without trading spots.

The expansion draft is before the draft. If they make this trade on draft day buffalo can simply ask for one of the players they selected already.

Yeah trading down from Hedman 2.0 is a big mistake

True but if the Sabres want a specific player they need to let Seattle know which player to take from a certain team.

I think that’s generous. I’m higher then most Sabres fans for him, but his skating is no where near Hedmans which would hold him back. If he hits his absolute ceiling, he’s 90% of who Hedman is. Which I would take btw, just the comp

Yep. Ask for both. Good idea. Buffalo could score a Mark Giordano, or a Matt Duchene, or a.... wait. Maybe this isn't enough. What about two players, plus Buffalo chooses whom Seattle takes from them?

Still can't get some guys who have NTC's, but there should be enough value to move down one spot.

This may be the one of the only years in recent history where the difference between 1 and 2 is pretty low.

- There is no consensus #1
- Many players didn't get scouted properly
- Many players didn't play this year

If Im Seattle, the only reason id make a trade to move up would be simply the publicity for the team and marketing aspect of having a the 1OV for an expansion team.

Honestly Buffalo should just keep the pick.
