Caps decline. You're gonna trade a Dman that everybody has been dunking on nonstop for a young up and coming goalie?

Lievermann and Compher don’t really do anything for Buffalo. Buffalo already has a third line center in Mittelstadt, and more defensemen than they know what to do with already. Kadri would be useful as a #2 center, but you’d have to convince him to waive his no trade clause.

WSH has enough LHD and enough cap hit. Can you make Graves a little better, a little cheaper, and a little more of a right handed shot, please?

eta: while we're at it, what about taller and faster? Thanks!

Depends. Is he willing to shoot right handed?

Perfect! When can he start?

Jokes aside, WSH LHD depth chart looks like: Orlov (#2D), Dillon (works well on top pair with Carlson), Kempny (works well enough to win a Cup on top pair if healthy), Chara (still decent if he wants another shot at the title), Fehervary (had good puck possession in a few games this past year. Is ready for a regular spot), Alexeyev (recent 1st rounder, rookie of the month for January in KHL, then did pretty well in the AHL), Johansen (former 1st rounder, future bottom four guy, hopefully). They're set. (eta: I forgot Nardella!! Bobby Nardella is a guy they signed out of college who just led a Swedish team in points, and might also be NHL ready, along with everyone I just mentioned).

If Col is getting a goalie it can easily protect from expansion, WSH would probably want to get back an exempt RHD prospect. Or an exempt forward prospect. My favorite Vanecek offer, and it's a controversial one but I keep seeing it, is Liljegren and a late 2nd. Since the Caps have no RHD prospects under contract, that addresses a need, and the pick is just a great bonus.

What about Timmins? Just spitballing. He’s exempt has an insane hockey iq, right handed and is only going to get better.

I posted Timmins and a 4th for Vanecek here. It could be a 6th, though. I don't think Timmins has shown as much as a rookie as Vanecek, but he's younger and exempt, so it's in WSH's interest to make it work. Comment away: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2469473
