Detroit declines. Doesn't fit our rebuild at all.

Detroit wouldn't trade Bertuzzi or a 1st for soon to be UFA Morgan Reilly

Detroit hangs up before you even propose that deal.

Rielly is a soon to be UFA. Bertuzzi is under team control and is very well liked in Detroit.

Honestly this site funny. Everyone complains when its Toronto I've noticed. Not like Toronto takes a forward that injured for the full year and needs a new contract plus the 23rd pick. Totally not worth a no.1 dman. This site is pure comedy.

Hold onto Rielly until the trade deadline, retain half, and you'll get your 1st for him.

LOL, this was a trade someone else purposed to me when I did Rielly for Sean Walker and Tyler Madden, and I got hate because I "trading Rielly for nothing". I did this to see how everyone would react to hence the name "Leafs Hate".

I've concluded that everyone overvalues their players in their system rather than entice the idea and try to add on and have a discussion.

No one said they dont like the player, they don't want a guy whos a ufa in a year who walks and we're out a winger and a 1st rounder. Its as simple as that.

How did my comment make you think "Leafs hate"?
I said they could get a 1st for him.
And gave the best way I think they could go about that.

It's the team you're trading him to. Detroit has zero need for a soon to be ufa.

Re-read what I said. I said I did this to see how everyone would react hence the name “Leafs Hate”

Didn’t say you hated on the Leafs…

My personal trade for Rielly is for Sean Walker and Tyler Madden with Rielly resigning with LA. Someone else gave me this trade, look at my threads I my other Armchair GMs.

This people on this site undervalued every Leaf players no matter what trade you purpose. I traded Engvall for Seabrook and got hate lol.

Think about the team you're trading to. They struggle to score goals and play a heavily defensive system. Trading a late first and a guy who usually scores 20 goals (again, on a team that struggles offensively) for a defenseman who isn't very good defensively doesn't make any sense.

I've concluded that not all fans understand the value of a player playing on an expiring contract. You know, a rental player? Like Morgan Rielly for example.

      A full year rental…

It has way more value than a deadline rental. A deadline rental is a 1st. So how is Rielly worth the same?

Idk maybe it’s because they don’t have anyone on the defensive side to transition the puck? Who controls a breakout for a team. 90% of the time it’s the defensman. Having a defenseman that transition to offense easily and distribute it makes the offence run smoother and better. Case and point Colorado when they went to Makar.

Detroit is rebuilding. Why would you use a powerhouse like Colorado as an example? Rielly couldn't hold Makar's jock strap. Yzerman is building through the draft just like he did with Tampa. He'll make trades but he won't rob Peter to pay Paul. He's not fast tracking anything.

If Yzerman does trade Bertuzzi it certainly won't be for a rental like Rielly who doesn't fit his timeline. He traded Mantha for a younger Vrana. Why would he be including a first round pick? Bertuzzi by himself is worth more than rental Rielly. If Rielly had 2 or 3 years left on his contract then it's different. But he doesn't.

Yzerman isn't making this trade because it's foolish and a perfect example of what a GM does if he wants to run his franchise into the ground. By the way, Moritz Seider is pretty good. He'll be a Red Wing next year. He's very good at transitioning the puck.

Is Detroit competing for a Cup? A playoff spot? No. They're rebuilding. Trading one of your best wingers for a rental Defenseman is dumb. It's only good for Toronto. The Red Wings don't exist to supply the Leafs with quality players. Yzerman never gets fleeced. He does the fleecing. That Tampa team you're watching about to win another Cup is a team he mostly built.

You might get a 1st for Rielly. But you're not getting Bertuzzi and a 1st. That's ridiculous.

      Supply and demand

There are a ton of options in off-season. Trades, UFAs, etc.
      At deadline, there are few.

Its that simple. He would be worth a lot more at deadline.

      A few points.

      1. Detroit have 6 good prospects on LD, 4 newly signed and 2 more unsigned.
      2. There are good LDs (Oleksiak for instance) available in FA that doesn't cost anything to get.
      3. Vince Dunn is on the block because the Blues can't protect him, they're asking for the Washington pick. That's less than half of what you're asking and Dunn is cost controlled.
      4. Both Gostisbehere and Gardiner looks to be available on cap dump deals where Detroit is likely to be offered at least a 2nd or two to take them on. They will stay for two years, your D will only stay for one year.

      Now, who's looking silly?
