Players who are probably on the move

Description
I didn't include Kuznetsov because I don't think he's going to be traded for a couple of reasons:

1. You're not going to get fair value back for him. I think you give him a shot this season in a full 82 game schedule to mature and play his game. He was still pretty good offensively (29 points in 41 games) even with the games where he came back from having COVID and struggled. Something that's missed pretty often about Kuznetsov is that he went to Laviolette and asked for more ice time, played a more well-rounded 200 foot game, and was given ice time late in games due to that.

2. If he (and his agent) were smart and he truly wants to stay in DC, they would structure his M-NTC (15 team no-trade list) like:

1-15: non-divisional teams/rebuilding teams, and not block trades to teams within the division/conference. I doubt GMBM trades Kuznetsov within the division, and probably not within the conference because he knows that Kuznetsov can be an elite player when he wants to be.

Players on the taxi squad are ones that will likely get a few games in the NHL to see where they're at in their development.

1.
WSH
Not necessarily the Sharks, just picking a team that'll probably have a bevy of cap space.
    SJS
    1. Hagelin, Carl
    2. 2021 2nd round pick (WSH)
    Additional Details:
Will definitely require a sweetener to move on from his contract. He has the same cap hit as Panik, who was moved with Vrana + 2021 1st & 2022 2nd for Mantha.

Caps signed Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to a two year extension, which tells me that they're looking for him to be in the NHL as soon as this season. He's pretty similar to Hags: plays on the PK, fast, but can actually score.
    2.
    WSH
    1. 2021 3rd round pick (CAR)
    Additional Details:
Could even be the Canes, who are letting Hamilton talk to other teams so they can get a pick back for Hamilton's signing rights.
    CAR
    1. Schultz, Justin
    Additional Details:
There will be a market for Schultz, especially for teams that lose the Dougie Hamilton sweepstakes. Schultz is still very productive offensively, and with the right partner, his defensive miscues can be less impactful.
    3.
    WSH
    1. 2022 3rd round pick (CBJ)
    Additional Details:
Winnipeg should have addressed defensive depth at the TDL in 2021, may try to make some bargain moves to address that this off-season.
    WPG
    1. Kempný, Michal
    Additional Details:
Kempny, when he was healthy, was THE catalyst for the Caps' defense during the 2017-18 season and the cup run. The Caps were awful before acquiring him. At this point, he's coming off of some major injuries, so he could be a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for a team in need of some veteran LHD help.
    4.
    WSH
    SEA
    1. Vanecek, Vitek
    Additional Details:
Still feels like it's pretty likely that Vanecek is taken in the expansion draft. He's young with a 1B ceiling (IMO) and has a cheap contract for the next season.

I think you get Ovi for less and shorter. Like i dont think he is doing what Chara did in Boston, but can see him doing 1 and 2 year deals for 6-8m a season.

I like what you have done here, I totally agree with everything except for a couple things. I would trade Dillon instead on Schultz because schultz had a good season and dillon is replaceable at a lower price. Also I would make the top D line Orlov and Carlson because that line worked really well and Jensen is a bottom pairing defensive defenseman. But overall I really like what you did. Nice Job!

Yeah, I think $10M over 4 is probably the worst case scenario, so I'd rather go that route in projecting the roster. If he wants to win, he'd take short term, lower cost deals.

I think Schultz is more "moveable" because the Caps have Carlson, Jensen, and TvR at the NHL level. If you move Dillon, you're probably relying on someone on the left side that's not necessarily ready (Alexeyev) or someone you overpay in FA. Also, Jensen and Orlov were really really good together analytically, and could be a pretty solid pairing. It was also more about spreading out the veterans, so you have Carlson with Fehervary and Dillon with TvR (who were also pretty good together last season in limited time).

Meh, one year deal for a guy who's effective when healthy is fine. He's probably one of the better, more realistic, "prove it" goaltenders available in free agency.

That's fine, but I'd rather overpay on these than underpay.

I wonder if the Caps would consider moving VV for a pick and expose Copley (or someone) instead?

I think its long but exactly what is gonna happen. Ovi has to make more than Backstrom so 10 makes sense. Backstrom has 4 years left so if OVi signs for 4 then they can ride off into the sunset together after it

I think they could, but then the opportunity cost is losing someone like Sprong for nothing, who should play a bigger role.

I hope the caps target freddie 1 year @ 2M...nice prove it contract for a good goalie in a brutal toronto market. Other than that i like all the moves, gives us the opportunity to finally play the rookies on D.

Andersen was another option I was considering too. I think him or Raanta would be good veteran options if Vanecek is taken in the expansion draft.

I'm hoping the caps trade VV before the exp draft and recoup draft capital and somehow get seattle to take Dillon and his 3.9M cap hit off our hands while we play Alexeyev. Bit risky depending on a rookie but i like him, think hes solid and (hopefully) not a turnover machine like Dillon.
