It’s a no brainer.. it’s makes 0 sense to get him unless it’s a TDL deal and you’re a team competing for a cup. He can’t just be the difference of making playoffs or not.. then it’s pointless

If there is a 5 year extension in place for this it would make sense.

If people are doing this for rentals, then yeah, you are definitely right, and of course it would never make sense for NJ. If it's with an extension, then even remotely making the comp between Rielly and those guys is incorrect. I would definitely take a swing at Dunn though. I think a better question for devil fans is how long do they think this team will still be rebuilding? When are they expected to at least compete for the playoffs?

If they're asking for McLeod, Wood, and 2 2nds for 1 year of Rielly, imagine what they'll ask for if it comes with an extension

I'm a long time Leaf fan. No way a rebuilding team should acquire a rental. Just my opinion, some team is going to disappointed when they overpay Reilly as a UFA. His defensive liability doesn't make him overpriced Dman value, though as we have seen over the years, players get paid for points.

Ya I meant If this was the price for him extended. Teams aren’t just going to pay a crazy price if they extend him and try to trade him.

They should be offering Sandin for McLeod, Wood, two 2nds. And extend Rielly themselves.

I think Devils are in better spot than many think because:

1. I am a totally biased, optimistic Devils fan
2. They had 10-months off, 4 months-on (with a two-week COVID pause), now 6 months-off.
3. Three coaches, two GMs over last two seasons.
4. Have only played 4 games with their 2015-19 1st picks all together (Zacha, McLeod, Hischier, Smith, Hughes)

They need some stability and time to develop together.
I think the 2nd half of 2021-22 will tell us who this team is.

Nice explanation for the leaf fans who think they can unload rielly on a team that has no business bringing him on. Petty would make more sense because of his age and potential
