Dead Money

Created by: CD282
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2021
Published: Jun. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buying out both Neal and Koskinen to create the most dead money of any team in the league. $6.2M! Can such a team be competitive? With $35M to sign 10 players, I believe so.

I put Kahun in instead. He's worth a 3rd I would think.

I think Tampa would still want a 4th in this deal. A 3rd and a potential backup goalie is just a little bit low for Killorn I think

SO glad to see the intelligent segment of the Oiler fanbase surfacing. The other part that keeps arguing for giving up the 19th overall selection in this draft to send Neal to Detroit or Seattle just doesn't get it. The other day, I had one idiot defend that strategy (when I disputed it) by saying “If you can’t remember the deals near identical to this done at the Vegas expansion that’s on you.” Of course, as you and I and most people whose IQ is measurable in three digits know, not one of the trades in 2017 by which teams gave away first-rounders had any cap-consideration component; they were all intended for the sole purpose of dictating which young players were NOT selected by Las Vegas. Giving away a first-round pick, particularly one in the middle third, instead of cutting a team’s cap overhead by $2 million is just moronic.

I like your evaluation of Pierre Engvall, too.
