Hamilton Tatar

Created by: Isles777
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2021
Published: Jun. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hamilton makes the Oilers instant cup contenders - besides lacking depth, the oilers haven't had a true #1 defenseman in a while. Bouchard can probably get there, but it will take a few years and the oilers shouldn't waste any more years of Mcdavids prime.

Tatar - one of the best play driving wingers in the league and not a liability defensively , being a healthy scratch in the playoffs will definitely affect what he gets in free agency, but he's a legitimate top line winger and hasn't shown any signs of decline. He'd be a perfect fit with Mcdavid.

I would probably keep Bear and let Larsson walk, but knowing Holland he would likely trade Bear.

Bernier is very good, put up good numbers on an awful Detroit team- I guess they can trade for varlamov or sign driedger/ ullmark.

I think he'll be on LTIR next season as well, not sure if he plans to return eventually.

I don't understand why carolina does the non-hamilton trade, they lose a good depth forward, a great prospect and a 2nd round pick, I know they get Bear but I don't think thats their best option

Bear is a solid #2 defenseman who Carolina can sign for under market value because of he doesn’t put up a lot of points (like they did with slavin/pesce). They need to replace Hamilton and Carolina definitely wins this trade. Bear can slide into Hamilton’s role and be effective with slavin. He won’t provide the same value obviously, but Carolina has no RD in their system with top pair upside.

I think these are fair points and I haven’t watched a ton of Bear, but I would rather do a short term deal with a guy like Barrie versus this trade. Playing with Slavin would be great for Barrie and he slots into our PP1. Might be more expensive but don’t think it breaks the bank and if Dougie is leaving they have short term flexibility anyways.

Barrie wants a long term deal (he's 29) at over 5 mill per. He's also extremely overrated, the oilers were a better team when he wasn't on the ice at even strength.

Yeah, I guess it depends how the market plays out on flat cap with him. Especially since teams get what he is at this point. If he doesn’t have long term offers I’d still want to bring him in for 2-3 years at 5ish. Think he’d be fine in the Canes system and brings something they’ll really miss to PP with Dougie leaving.

the canes would probably have no interest in barrie considering they use analytics to make their decisions

Who do you think they target in UFA for that role (first pair RHD to put with Slavin, puck mover who can run PP1)?

I think they will trade for a RD, Hamilton and Barrie are the only two RD who can run a PP in this years UFA class
