Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

1. Johnsson to Seattle: He needs a change of scenery and an increased role.
Backup Plan: Butcher is selected

2. Devils draft Luke Hughes: Reunite the brothers and good pick positional wise
Backup Plan: Draft Brandt Clarke

3. Resign Sharangovich, McLeod, Siegenthaler, Kuokkanen, Merkley, Bastian, Studenic to bridge deals. Let go of all the UFAs

4. Sign Coleman, Martinez, Andersen, Foote in Free Agency: Coleman would be 3C and mentor the young players (Played center in NJ). Martinez would be a great leader for the defense. Andersen would be the backup to Blackwood, Foote (Offersheet) would be a young defensemen we could steal from a cap strapped Tampa team (I know offer sheets don't happen much)
Backup Plan: Boqvist, Butcher, Bernier, Walsh

5. Trade Butcher: I like Butcher as a player but I think he needs a change of scenery. Still a solid dman but Devils have too many offensive defensemen

6. Taxi Squad = All of the players that could get a spot on the roster next year

Interesting team. Wouldnt the Devils be better off protecting Johnsson over McLeod/Wood? I know he had a bad year last year, but he can score 20 goals/50 points playing in the top 6. Also thats a lot to give Martinez, but with the cap space, the Devils can afford it and he would be a good veteran presence who can still play. Also I doubt offer sheets are going to happen, but if there were to be, this one would be an intriguing one.

All seems reasonable... love the offer sheet. Assuming there is no collusion going on, this could actually work (unfortunately there is, so it won't happen) ... too bad you can't get both Clarke and Hughes. With Cal on board, that would be three sets of brothers on the same team.

Interesting UFA options this year. I like your choices, but there are just so many directions Fitzgerald could go ... even the most predictable one, do nothing, plug holes with late signing on short term deals. Your version is more fun. Let's do that one

I doubt if Foote signs that offer sheet, Certainly 2m (close to it) is OK for Tampa.
Martinez may be looking to go a contender in last contract, though if NYD overpays him maybe he signs.
There are lots of UFA goalies. Wonder if NJD would be better getting a younger one with term.

Yep, thats cuz he has asthma and COVID. Still think he is good, and I would try to protect him

I did the math and if Tampa manages to trade 3 of (McDonagh, Palat, Killorn, Johnson), they would be able to match. I played it safe with $2 M but I could see the Devils offering 3M+ just so Tampa wouldn't match.
I like Martinez as a player so I wouldn't mind overpaying him. But I agree that he'll most likely sign with a contender
I doubt the Devils would be looking to get a younger goalie with term because they want to give Blackwood the starting role and have a veteran backup to help him out (Crawford last year). Signing a young goalie would give Blackwood unnecessary competition

I realllllly like this team. I might move a couple things around between the 1st and 3rd line but this a roster I can get behind. Love the Foote offersheet and Martinez contract.

I was thinking about that too but decided to not rush Foote or Holtz
