If it is just signing rights and not a sign and trade, Jets decline.

I feel like Jack Drury is so vital to the Eichel return

Thankfully he's superb

You miss the part where they loose half their top 4 defense including a Norris caliber dman and re0lace them with depth guys? Carolina needs Eichel about as much as Tampa needa him.

Martinez > Skjei
Dougie is gonna be 28. Giving him a huge contract would be a mistake.

Calling Martinez & Savard "depth guys" is really underselling them. Savard is a top tier stay at home guy. Having a Pesce/Martinez/Slavin/Savard top 4 is still very good.

Gaining Eichel is huge for their SC chances. Forwards are much more impactful then d men. This is a better team.

I like Martinez, and Savard for that matter but they arent anything special. Dougie turning 28 doesnt mean anything, a lot of defensemen's primes last well into their 30's, Pietrangelo is 31 and got a 7 year deal.

Saying forwards have much more impact than defense is laughable considering how the last few playoffs have played out. Dont get me wrong Eichel is a great player but Dougie is far more valuable

"a lot of defenseman's primes last well into their 30's"

They don't. Usually, a d man's best years are his early / mid 20s. They usually hit a big wall after 30. Signing long term would have him signed until he's 36. Paying a d man that much money during their 30s is never good.

A top forward > a top d man. They have much more impact on the game. This is Svech's impact compared to McAvoy (one of the best d man in the NHL right now) and Hedman. Svech isn't even a top forward yet and he still has more of an impact than the best d man in the whole league. Eichel will do way more for a team than Dougie.

You're using offensive heatmaps to argue game impact? Thats obviouslyskewed towards the guy who is always right in front of the net. Heres actual stats that shows game impact:

Yes, it's showing who's driving the play. Guys who operate in high scoring areas have a much higher impact on the game. Svech, while not being a top forward in the league, is more impactful than McAvoy.

That's just fundamentally wrong. Preventing scpri g chances is equally as important as creating them. There os a reason why teams like Toronto, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, and Florida are currently golfing whereas NYI, Vegas, and Montreal aren't

It's not. Svech is just that more impactful on offense than either of them. His defensive impact is even better than Hedman and only slightly worse than McAvoy. Top forwards are always more valuable than d men.
