Description
AZ is obviously giving up a lot in that Marner trade but it makes so much sense for the organization. Marner only needs to be paid $24.8M in real money after his SB is paid out this offseason. That's nearly $20 million less than his AAV over those remaining four years and for a team heading into the 2021-22 season currently under the cap floor, a regular season superstar like Marner is exactly what they need.

Leafs get a retained Kuemper to be in tandem with Campbell. Probably sign a depth goalie since both have injury history. Garland can be an instant contributer in the top 6 and can play alongside either C. Chychrun is the major piece coming back, may develop into a 1D over the course of his contract.

Rielly with an extension for Puljujarvi makes sense for both sides if Klefbom doesn't return. Leafs likely won't be re-signing Rielly with their left side already very deep so they move him before he becomes UFA. Oilers get a PP QB and don't need to re-sign Barrie who was a liability defensively.

Leafs pay Seattle Hallander and Engvall to take Dermott in expansion draft. May need to give more/different pieces but Engvall can play in their bottom six, Dermott's a 5/6 guy at worst and Hallander could end up being a middle six winger.

Dougie signing would be great if it happens, gives the Leafs a true #1 and a different look on the PP. Rest of the signings are pretty straight forward.

I wish we could keep Marner but the flat cap is going to stay for up to five more years. Leafs can't improve to be true cup contenders with their current makeup

how in the world does that help the Yotes? They lose 3 important top players for them for a RW that they dont really need

Plus that Garland contract is very low. This is an easy pass for them. They are better off with all those players than Marner

Guarantee they would, Marner is just Marner to them, they don't spend to the limit anyways so they aren't worried about his AAV. They get a top five point player, it's a business move instead hockey move.

I know this is a good trade, but Oilers needs are wingers. We are stacked on D. This is the complete opposite of what we need to do.

If they read my description they'll see why I think the trade might happen. I really don't think its outrageous and could happen with some pressure from ownership

Eh I think that’s too much for the coyotes to give up for 10M dollars of Marner

Uhh, Carolina could very much get better value for Hamilton's right... OR just pay him that. Hamilton wants 8 digits, that's why there's the issue surrounding Carolina re-signing him.

Not what I've heard and seen from NHL insiders, heard 6ish from Canes, 8ish from Hamilton

if Arizona is trading their 3 most valuable pieces it should be for picks/prospects/futures not marner

Sara Civ of the athletic says Carolina is offering 6-ish hoping to get him down to 8 from 10.

Ya but it doesn't change the fact that this makes ARZ a much worse team. Usually being bad isn't good for business.

oilers pass they keep JP and if they need a defenseman they go after dougie or resign barrie vs given up an asset who is starting to figure out his NHL game.

The Marner trade isn't that farfetched. Cheap teams like Arizona, Ottawa and Florida care far more about the actual salary not the AAV and Marner would be easier to market than Conor Garland. Also a line of Keller-Dvorak-Marner would be stupid fun to watch

fun fact Morgan Reilly is also a liability defensively & was taken off PP1 in place of a rookie, edm does need to pay a 2LD 7M for middling results, that trade makes no sense
Reilly wouldnt run the PP over Bouchard or Nurse

Barrie makes Rielly look like a defensive defenseman and can take a load of minutes off of Nurse, oilers have no depth on D as we saw in the yoffs

that depth can be obtained via FA without giving up their 1RW for a second pair dman who wont play powerplay.. doesnt make sense

As if he wouldn't play pp1... And if Edmonton can't sign Dougie or Martinez then what FA D are even remotely close to Rielly?
