The sabres value Ristolainen too much to attach a 2nd round pick with him.

They could pull a Detroit here. Lots of cap space to weaponize... sounds familiar.

Well, I don't think he was saying they will get both of them.
      Also, they are both bad.

I don't think Ghost is bad. I just don't think he ever lived up to the hype. I think he's decent, but it's not a point worth arguing to death. He's not great. lol

I agree. But we have Will Butcher...not sure Ghost would be much of an upgrade.
I'd rather get a Marcus Pettersson or a Vince Dunn.

Depends on the 'sweetener' I guess.
I can think of some young prospects the devils could use in Flyers system.

He didn’t mention it as if Risto was a cap dump. Sounds like they legitimately value him as a good NHL player…yikes

Both wouldn't be useful to the Devils but I agree it depends on the sweetener.

I'd be happy to a Petts/Wood swap as many seem to be throwing out there today. Do you guys really need a 2nd pairing LD though?

EDIT: I assumed with Butcher and Smith that pretty much locks up your 1st and 2nd pairing LD situation.

Risto isn't a cap dump. We have a ton of space. Most likely would just be a mid round pick for him.

Risto only has one year left on his deal and if the Sabres are going to trade Jack and Sam they will have plenty of cap space. I dont think the Devils see Risto as a cap dump so they will be giving something back in return.

When you have Skinner signed for $9M, everything else is a cap dump LOL

We need more defensive LHD with has had high breakout success rate (and multiple years on deal).
Butcher has one year left and lost a lot of playing time to rookies this year.
      Smith is locked into top-4.

If he is mentioning Ghost as one that needs a 'sweetener', safe to assume Risto would need one too.

      Here is what he said

      16. The Buffalo News’ Lance Lysowski reported that New Jersey had interest in Rasmus Ristolainen. I’d heard similar. I’ve also wondered if the Devils would consider Shayne Gostisbehere, with a sweetener included, but Hamilton makes sense there, too.

That was the deal I proposed before trade deadline, but then we got Siegenthaler.
So if we re-sign Murray, and draft d-man at #4, I'd say no.
But otherwise, I like that deal.

Yeah, Murray is an x-factor, but Siegenthaler is well... not good IMO.

Like others have said, Risto isn't a cap dump. Sabres would be perfectly fine keeping him for the next year and possibly moving him at the deadline.

If the Devils are reportedly interested in him, they would be the ones giving up an asset.

      I doubt we resign Murray

I would be fine with Butcher, Smith, Bahl as our LHD. After next year, Butcher leaves and Mukamadullin joins the team. Year after that, Smith moves to the right side and Hughes/Edvinsson/Clarke join the team

It's a joke, but it means since you have so much money tied up in a bad contract that any players you can get off the books is a dump.

They are talking about a $5.4 million player to replace their 8th or 9th d-man.
      That's like someone saying...

"Sabres have interest in Frans Nielsen since they have glaring need with Jean-Sebastien Dea a UFA."
