In a Vilardi/Reilly trade picks would need to be going to LA, not the other way around. And the Kings won't trade Vilardi for Reilly anyway.

I think Hamilton signs for more, but I think he is worth signing and backing up the brinks truck for. I would also probably add some more offensive scoring depth. like Marcus Johansson, but this makes sense overall.

Why not? If the Kings can resign Rielly, I think its a great trade. Vilardi is far from a sure thing, and I they still have Kopitar/Byfield/Turcotte as C depth.

Easy no from LA. They're not giving up an A prospect for rental Rielly. While they may or may not be able to re-sign him, why would LA compensate Toronto for a deal that they negotiated themselves.

The most I'd give up for Rielly is two second rounders, with a condition on the 2022 pick based on some performance metric by Rielly (10g/40p or something).

Vilardi played an entire season between 2C and 3C last year as a 21 year old, in his first full professional season. I'd say he's already as sure a thing as prospects can be. It gives up years of team control (and 1 year left of ELC) for 1 year of Reilly, with that big "if they can resign Reilly" hanging heavy over the trade. There's no way LA risks that.

Nobody is going to do the Leafs a favor like this while their cap is so bad. They have absolutely no leverage when it comes to dropping cap hit, even if the player is good.
