Ty Smith is much better on offense but looking at his advanced stats his xGA is worse and his Def is about the same, Risto is worse but its not by a massive amount

They are not really even close

Smith CF%: 58.8
Risto CF%: 41.6

Smith CF% relative: +11.7
Risto CF% relative: -7.0

Smith FF%: 55.7
Risto FF%: 40.1

Smith FF% relative: +9.1
Risto FF% relative: -8.4

xGA and xGF are often used, but out of context, stats that do not factor in possession.
Its like saying a Left Tackle stinks because he doesn't prevent many touchdowns.

In this case, Risto's xGF should be discounted since his team has only 40% possession of the puck when he is on the ice.
Smith's xGA should be discounted since his team has nearly 60% possession of puck when he is on the ice

Use share of shots, share of possession, share of quality scoring chances, share of high-danger chances, etc
Much more useful.
