Why would COL trade Girard? Goes both ways. This is a hockey trade and MTL fans have been mocking Girard to the Habs incessantly lately.

MTL has a lot of LHD prospects so hopefully 2-3 of them can develop into the NHL, I would still take Girard but not if Suzuki would be involved, That's a hard pass IMO

MTL doesn't do this, they need LD for sure and I love Girard but that leaves a HUGE hole at C, they've needed young promising C for years and now they have that. They aren't going to fill one hole by putting a huge one up front.

they have kk and keep danault. gives them a top line d under 30. habs have no one in the system that projects to be as good as girard.

a player like girard isnt going to come cheap. i can understand not wanting to go from suzuki to kk or danault. unless kk takes a big jump that's a pretty steep drop off.

yea the more i think about it i agree. value wise it's a nice win for the habs but without a heir apparent for suzuki the habs are only fixing one hole by opening another.

and hes 23 and has over 250 nhl games played. wait till suzuki is 23 with over 250 nhl games played and he'll be in discussion for the selke too. you just don't trade a talent like suzuki for girard. girard is good. but hes not suzuki level good. suzuki is a step ahead.

So your logic here is "wait and see" over "look what he's already doing." Cool, cool.

Let's be real, neither team is looking to trade either of these guys, but the value in this trade is about right. All of this "take Drouin, Lehkonen, and a 2nd" for Girard is a load of crap, and yet another example of Habs fans overvaluing your players.

all those drouin trades are extremely stupid. girard would immediatly be the habs best offensive d-man. stop listening to those drouin trades. the only sensible drouin trade ive seen has been for ristolainen but thats a different issue. the value is off even now because suzuki not only is getting better offensively, but hes already being compared to bergeron defensively. thats not an easy name to throw around. this kid is special. girard is an elite puck mover as well. he would look insane beside weber because he won't really have to worry about defending when you have a 6'4 monster as your d-partner. but the value is off, also considering the teams involved. suzuki is the first legit center habs have had in a very very very long time. imo mtl would love girard. i know they tried to darft him too. but i dont see a deal happening that involves suzuki. the only player i see the habs trading suzuki for would be eichel (a package obv).

girard is already elite offensively and defensively. suzuki has the potential to get there on both accounts but isn't there yet. avs should be compensated for their risk since girard has proven so much more while only being a year older.

Not to mention the value Girard's contract carries. A norris level defenseman signed to that deal is a unicorn, and that won't come cheap.

i kind of accounted for that in the original post by stating that suzuki signs an equivalent extension. but in real life girards contract make him excessively more valuable than suzuki.
