Description

They don't have the cap to sign Hyman (Unless)..... They Need to break up the Core 4 - Cant trade Matthews (Pretty Obviously) or Tavares (NMC) .... And Nylander is alot cheaper and is going to get better.... And with salary cap staying the same, marner in my opinion should be traded... Leafs need to do something big, roll the dice, or its going to be the same result next year.

Jones is basically a 1 year rental (because you need to sign Reilly the following year), so the trade is Marner for Atkison, Foudy (pretty good prospect) and a 1st....

Seems like a very optimistic return. In my opinion be lucky if Columbus is willing to do a 1-1 for Jones.

I'll agree with you that the Leafs might have to something like this as you suggest with the trade. 32 year old Atkinson at 5.875m X 4, might be too little cap relief the Leafs would want.
How's this trade. Jenner, Foudy and the first rounder. This would allow CBJ to get young assets back if they trade UFA Jones. Leafs would get cap space to acquire a Dman and more.

I get it, i would want to keep a top 5 goal scorer in the league..... But to may 4 players about 50 % of your cap is bananas (Unless you play basketball ahah) I was just trying to play around with options

I agree with you. For some reason, Jones is a real darling of CF followers. Don't know why so many think the CBJ Dmen and goalies are such difference makers. The good part about Jones/Marner trade though, the Leafs get 5.5m in cap space this season and 11m in 21/22.

Yea could do that aswell.... Only other trade that is similar to this is call buffalo for Reinhart, Dahlin and a first for Marner...... Then eichel gets his help on the wing, there drafting Powers (New #1 D) and leafs get a good young D and a decent foward on a decent contract

Jones (and Reilly) area going to be two overpaid Dmen when they hit UFA. Both players aren't that special to get the $$$$ they are going to get. No thanks for a Jones extension (or Reilly)

To be fair Columbus fans could say same thing. It’s a tough move for both sides. I just don’t see with the state Columbus roster is in it’s the right time to unload assets to bring in a winger or contract of that significance.

Why would ARZ give up a haul if it is obvious that Matthews would be leaving TOR? Just as easy to give him as much money as he wants as a UFA to come home if it gets that far.

Fair enough, I personally think Jones is great, but he isn’t worth 10+ or anything.

Maybe… depends on what you guys need the most. A top right winger, or a number one defence man…. I believe you could get a younger one anyway for Marner.

That's going to be a no. Pursuing Marner really only makes good sense if we're going for the immediate-bounceback plan, but doing that would be crippled by losing so many roster players.

But Marner is among the best right wings in the league. Jones isn't among the best defenseman in the league.
