bring up the young guys

Created by: DartGuy86
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2021
Published: Jun. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Since signing a bunch of grit and 'veteran leadership' still didn't get us out of the first round, its time to bring up some prospects. Robertson and Hallander can make the team. Sandin is a regular this year, and if Lilly looks good, trade Holl for another piece mid season. If the divisions go back to normal this season I'm not sure if this team makes the playoffs, TBH.

Dunno if a roster like this could miss the playoffs tho

Big 4 automatically = top 10 offense

Driedger/Campbell at worst average

Helluva D core especially with Sandin really emerging and Lilly becoming increasingly overqualified for the AHL and some nice depth down there just in case

Regular season 😎 shmegular shmeason

The playoffs however...

🤕

Not sure if you got the numbers right on your signings. Hyman 4.25M and Nick Foligno 1M to name a couple.

I totally agree on putting Robertson up there with how incredibly insulating Marnttherws (hm ok their portmanteau is a work in progress... ) is

They turned Hyman into prime Chris Drury this year and being on their line gave geriatric Joe Thornton a pulse (also it accounted for 3/4 of his total pts*)

*15 pts in 16 gp beside AM/MM 5 in 28 elsewhere

Nor will Nick have to worry about his numbers and all the NHL hierarchies: he can just focus on hitting his marks so to speak and optimizing his nifty skillset

Starting him there in preseason as well so he's not feeling overwhelmed with lots of time to prepare for the grind sounds good too, nice & cushy ftw 🎁

Hm yeah definitely tough to convince players to take a discount to win a cup when the team can't get past the 1st round 😬😐🤕

Edit:

I mean Spezza literally just did this lol but

Uh.

Nevertheless

Folingo is definitely going to take a discount for his next team but I don’t see the value in Toronto offering him? I mean the top line in the playoffs is a glaring issue (JT aside) so I’m curious as to what the next identity of the leafs is. The veteran presence didn’t get it done. Not that it is on them.

Not sure if they're accurate either, but I'm not willing to give Foligno any more than that, and I gave Hyman 7 years.

Funny how you say grit and veteran leadership didn't work, then you sign some of the same guys as UFAs. I'm all for youth making the team only if they are good enough. Hallander and Robertson may not be NHL ready.

haha, yeah. I was more referring to Thornton and Simmonds. Spezza is obviously worth the money, and Foligno I don't we really got a fair shake with him due to injury. I'd still only offer him $1mil though.
