Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2021
Published: Jun. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keep it simple, but competitive.
No stupid trades that involve the Canucks sending picks or prospects to get players they don't need or to dump cap problems.
No Reinhart, No Rielly, No taking advantage of Cap or Expansion strapped team.
No stupid signings like Barrie of Hoffman.
Canucks keep the 9th and 41st picks.
Let Seattle take who they want
Only JV needs to bought out, no unnecessary dead cap money for the following year
LE, AR to Abbotsford, although I believe the Rangers have interest in Roussel if salary is retained.
Beagle finishes his contract on the Canucks

$29.7M free for the following year

Armia could demand more, but he could easily be McGinn, Coleman, or Goodrow - all possibly cheaper then Armia.
4L-RW could be any C-RW at a $1m

I could live with this....but, I think Benning's plan to be "aggressive" will be short sighted as usual. I honestly don't expect the Canucks to draft any earlier than the third round this year in his quest for the playoffs.

Like the philosophy here a lot.

I really doubt you'll see Armia take a pay cut after the post-season he's having. I'd save money there and try to add another defenseman.

Defense can be addressed the following year - UFA/RFA pool is deep, super deep
I gave Arima a pay raise, but yeah I don't think it is enough - other options are McGinn, Coleman, Goodrow, etc

I like what you did here. The focus needs to be on the year after next when the Canucks will have some workable cap space, that being said it is JB were talking about. I expect JB to trade assets or buyout contracts in order to create cap space, before signing players to to much dollars and term in order to try and make the playoffs next year.

It definitely scares me....
