Yeeeee, Eriksson is not going to cost a high value prospect. You’ll get picks sure but I doubt they sell dipetro for this.

If McD was just a couple years younger or that contract a couple years shorter id be all in favor of it.

Agreed. I just think the Red Wings could greatly benefit from his leadership on the blueline, he will definitely fall off and will ultimately end up on LTIR in a few seasons so the cap isn't a huge concern for me right now.

I guess it depends on how you define “high value” prospect. Eriksson would cost more than Staal or at least comparable.

DiPietro is an A minus level G prospect at best. Eriksson is buyout-proof, and there are very few teams that can afford to take the full $6M hit with no cap going back the other way. It's DiPietro + a low-level pick upgrade or a first round pick in my opinion.

These trades aren't realistic and the Wings are protecting Stecher.

Need more to take Eriksson, goalie prospects are the hardest to predict for NHL success. Tampa wouldn't touch Dekeyser for McD. Stecher at the very least should have some trade value while guys like Cholowski and Lindstrom don't have any trade value or much upside left so makes no sense to protect them over Stecher

I agree having a guy like him could really help the kids back there.

...Tampa is already $5M over the cap. They have no choice but to shed contracts, and McDonagh + Tyler Johnson are at the top of the list.

Not sure what you're talking about when it comes to Stecher...Cholowski has a ton more potential than he does.

I think if Vancouver was willing to give up a big piece to move Eriksson wether it be 1st or A level prospect he wouldn't be in Vancouver.

I get what you are saying but Stecher was good last season and Cholowski hasn't figured it out yet despite playing in 104 games in the last 3 seasons. It's down to Cholowski or Lindstrom unless Detroit trades for Dunn then both of them are unprotected. I also think If Detroit doesn't protect Namestnikov he will be Seattle's choice.

I would love to see Petruzzelli sign but it's looking like he doesn't want to play in Detroit.

Don't think it's as simple as looking at the past for Eriksson. He has one year left now, he's the most moveable since first signing with Vancouver. It's extremely common for players with poor contracts to be moved with only a year left, and Benning has been given the green light to improve the team at whatever cost he can (buyouts, trades, value signings).

Stecher was good last season, but I just can't see Yzerman protecting him (a bottom-pair ceiling defenseman) over a past first round pick who has had increasing AHL success over the last several seasons. Detroit has been nothing short of a disaster, and I believe they go the route of protecting youth with higher potential over an older bottom-pairing journeyman D.

Christian Djoos signed a 2-year contract in the Swiss league more than two weeks ago.

William Wallinder is nowhere near ready to be signed, maybe next year.
