Eichel Trade Dougie Signing

Created by: oilersfan19
Team: 2021-22 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2021
Published: Jun. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Essentially, Seattle feels they should start competitive. With Vegas as perennial cup contenders post their own expansion draft, Oilers a few pieces away from playoff contention outside of 1st round losses. LA, Anaheim, Vancouver have very bright futures. San Jose & Calgary need a retool before looking at playoff contention themselves. In order for Seattle not to fall behind off the bat, they need to try to be competitive out of the gate.

With the trades, I mainly went after European prospects & draft picks as SEA won't have an AHL team in year 1, so these players can get loaned to Europe.

If Zucker is available there will be no need for Pittsburgh to give Seattle anything to select him

If Zucker is available there will be no need for Pittsburgh to give Seattle anything to select him

They won't take Koskinen for compensation for taking Neal. His contract is bad as well

A first and a second for a guy as good as Eichel would be a bad deal

                    What?

                    Eichel is a potential HOFer

It's just that the Okposo deal is just bad not devastating; if it was the Sknner deal then I think the Sabres acknowledge this offer but still quite low

If Buffalo could magically double Eichel's salary to 20M Seattle would still enthusiastically take him and Okposo for free naturally holy jeez it's jack Eichel

Of course, I'm serious. Why would any body think Seattle taking on 16 in cap for those two players is a good deal? And to lose the picks too.
I still say Seattle is better off if the trade was just for Eichel. Keep the picks and spend 10m on the players.

The idea of Seattle trading for Eichel is interesting. The execution is disastrous though. You overvalue by a mile how much teams will be willing to give to control who's picked.

Every GM in the NHL and even 95% of CapFriendly followers could spend 26m (even 16M)a lot better on UFAs than having Eichel and Okposo on their team.

Wait till after the playoffs and before UFAs starts. Teams will setting their roster and their cap space and looking if they have cap space, players they can acquire for free as UFAs

I don’t think you understand what a sign and trade is.

If CAR does a sign and trade with Hamilton, they will be trading him for assets, not giving them up.

If Hamilton want signed by Francis during the Seattle ufa period prior to the expansion draft, that’s the pick from CAR. No need for CAR to give up anything.

Cap space is like 2% of what these gms are worried about, and the Sabres are more than likely taking cap back, cause they arent trading him straight up for a pick. This cap space take is the most irrelevant argument ive heard.

You argument is most head in the sand argument since the the cap was part of the NHL. If cap space was nothing the wealthy Leafs would overpay for every UFA and have 140m payroll.
Don't complain to me cause the Sabres are the worse team in the NHL and their two best players want out. Keeping Eichel and Reinhart and still finish out the playoffs, loser Reinhart as UFA in summer of 2022 if you think that's the best plan

Face of the franchise? I'm not blaming Eichel for the Sabres problems, but geez he has been the face of Sabres franchise for years.

No, I'm not insane, I just suggested with logic (you can disagree) that teams aren't giving up great picks and prospects to acquire 10m Eichel, unless they can send some somewhat bad cap back to the Sabres. They will develop their prospects and spend that 10m on players not name Eichel, if the Sabres refuse to take back some big iffy cap.

The rest of the league hasn't figured out how to handle Eichel's cap other wise they would have traded for him now.
Don't how you can logically say the Leafs can't handle the cap. All teams have the same cap, and Sabres continually finish out of the playoffs., so if any team that has mismanaged the cap and player personnel it has been the Sabres...and now their best players want to leave. Bad enough that Sabres GMs can't manage their cap, but it has infected some of their bias homer fan base too.
So, please don't get personal with me, just because you're crying that the Sabres haven't made the trade that you think the Sabres deserve.
As I suggest, we'll find out soon.

They will develop their prospects and spend that 10m on players not name Eichel, if the Sabres refuse to take back some big iffy cap.

This is a team sport so Eichel playing on the worst team in the league is not the best rep for him, Seattle is the only team that will not give cap back since they have no valuable cap and they can make their own cap hit. Any other team in the league will have to give cap back but they won't give bad contracts, they will give good players and picks/prospects for eichel, the reason okposo is in this trade is bc he is replacing the prospects/players others teams would give but seattle can't so instead they take on an extra 6M

The rest of the league hasn't figured out how to handle Eichel's cap other wise they would have traded for him now.

Thats a giant stretch of logic yourself. Half the teams in the league couldnt make an offer for him in the last month, that probably has more to do with it.
The Leafs have one of the highest salaries in the league but cant get out of the first round. The Sabres cap isnt close to the reason why they cant make the playoffs, they dump 8 mill on Taylor Hall to show up and coast through 30 games, while Torontos is directly related, playing a skeleton crew d and picking up goalies in the clearence bin. Youre going to have to explain how the Sabres cant manage their cap when they were 5 under and have 20 mill going into the offseason in a flat cap. You're not even making sense. Im not crying that Sabres have moved Eichel at all, what are you talking about. Its nothing personal, your arguement makes 0 sense and is torn to shreds by everyone yet you keep doubling down and getting hot when its called out
