I think it was a reporter for Pittsburgh who was saying one of Zucker, Petterson, Marino should be moved for value so Pittsburgh can retool for one more push

Considering Marino has an extension in place and has good defensive numbers

you probs could get a 1st + some prospects for him

So if Toronto traded for him

2022 1st + Liligren + Hirvonen

I think the Penguins would be interested in Foote or Wood. Wood has more experience and would be a great in the playoffs so I'll go with him. Wood+Islanders first for Marino? I honestly don't know how much value he has.

I've seen Pens fans express interest in Colin White in the past, so maybe something involving him? Maybe Ottawa retains a bit of salary, and adds some picks and prospects?

Ottawa Senators
Receive:
John Marino

Pittsburgh Penguins
Receive:
Colin White (750K Retained salary, 4mil AAV)
Roby Jarventie (recent 2nd round pick, Scoring winger with real upside as a speedy sniper)
Joey Daccord (good depth goalie who has shown some NHL upside)
2021 39th overall pick
2021 42nd overall pick

IDK if I'd make the top 10 pick would be available (I think if it gets traded its for a forward), but I think this deal gives the Pens a lot of what they could want/need. Versatile young forward who can step in right away, a really talented winger prospect to stock the cupboards and two good picks. Maybe other teams can beat this offer though.

On paper he's just about everything you could ask for in a D Partner for Chabby.

Marino's got legitimate value, but his value isn't too terribly high compared to some other young defenseman. I don't think Ron Hextall and Brian Burke are as high on him as Jim Rutherford was. He could maybe get the Pens a first rounder, but if Marino gets off to a rough start this seasonn continuing on from his sophomore slump, I could see his value dropping to as low as a 2nd round pick

I would like to see Marino start the season strong, then play strong and smart consistently throughout the season. His value will be determined later in the season.

I still maintain that Marino being worth even a first round pick alone is still a bit of a stretch, especially after the sophomore slump he had last season. Right now I think he grades out as a second pairing defenseman at best, which is still pretty good, but not quite top end value. If the Penguins want to wait to deal Marino at the trade deadline in the hopes that he can raise his stock by then, more power to Hextall and co., but like I said, Marino has a lot to prove to get the Pens new management team back in his favor
