Description
I have Zucker being taken in the expansion draft so ive tried to design a team with that in mind. I think the most likely replacement for him is Poulin as I think hes ready to be given a shot in the NHL.

I think overall it will be a pretty quiet off-season for the pens, I think they like their group and don't want to make many changes.

I have traded DeSmith and Riikola to the oilers for some draft picks to free up a little extra cap space to sign Anderson (who I believe the pens may try and get at the right price).

I have also signed a few UFAs who are just meant to represent guys who can play and probably wont cost a lot (these can be replaced by other "guys" easily):

Bracco - A UFA on the younger side I wouldn't mind adding to the system
Carrick - played some games, would be a nice depth add
Hutton - Again played a bit and would be nice depth
Gudbranson - Actually didn't hate him here, hated his cap hit. wouldn't mind bringing him back as depth on the blue line.

I've signed some Pens UFAs and RFAs as well:
ZAR - I'm hoping he isn't taken by Seattle, really like him.
Blueger - love him in the 4C role
Zohorna - looked solid in the few games he played, nice size as well
Jankowski - NHL experience, decent depth
Gaudreau - Really like this player, would be awesome to keep him
Ceci - SUPER impressed me this season, really hope he signs back
Lagace - looked good in his one game and I'm comfortable with him as the third goalie

As much as I like Erod i doubt we can afford him so I have him walking.

Other RFAs and UFAs might be signed but I just gave the more notable ones contracts!

Thanks for reading!

Oilers aren't interested in that trade... giving up assets for a back-up goalie and a 7D doesn't make sense for us. We need a goalie that can split starts with Smith and challenge for #1. And we have lots of guys that can challenge for 7D, don't need to trade for a guy that does what we already have.

I actually think the Oilers would really like DeSmith. He's cheap and his lowest career SV% in the NHL is .912. He can definitely be that 1b goalie and is capable of starting if Smith were to be injured. I also think Rikkola fits Edmonton pretty well. Pens fans have wanted Riikola to be full time but he just isn't getting an opportunity. Theres a reason The picks involved are just mid-round picks.

It's not that we dislike him, he's just likely not the right fit at this time. The Oilers need to take another step this year and I don't think they'd be confident in a guy like DeSmith... I think they'll be going more for a Ullmark/Mrazek, type. On defense, we just don't have room for Riikola. Assuming we lose Jones to expansion and Klefbom is out, we'd be looking for a veteran top 4 to play behind Nurse. Russell would be our 3D and we have guys like Lagesson/Broberg/Samourukov that will be pushing him to try and get in the line-up.

Nothing wrong with the price, just not the right fits.
    Zetsu liked this.
