Butcher wasn't horrible last year. He didn't play alot because the Devils didn't need another offensive defensemen. Once he started to play more after the TDL, he was decent

Could be a bit off on him. The couple games I did watch with him he looked rough, and what I've read suggests he has a similar player report to Ghost, just maybe with less upside and track record

Detroit already have 9 waiver eligible wingers penned in for next year + Raymond and Berggren.

We'd be much more interested in taking on Ghost, we actually need LD.

    Butcher didn't play poorly...he just didn't play.
Devils had too many offensive d-men, and Ty Smith essentially bumped him from lineup.

He still is what he is...good, crafty puck-mover, great vision and passing, can QB a power play.
Ups and downs in own zone.
But he is not fast, so never fit in with Lindy Ruff's "everyone joins the rush" type offense.

I think its a fair swap.

Fair. Only thing w/ Ghost is I've seen some teams reckon they'd get a 2nd+ for Ghost, which based on his play the 2nd half of last season should be an absolute no-go. He's being moved strictly out of not being necessary anymore
