Description
In this scenerio you just trade Dumba for Dubois to upgrade at C. Then sign KK EK and Fiala to extensions, plus Cole and Menell to fill out the D. Then add Giroux so the Kraken take Rask in the Expansion draft. This doesnt change the team much and leaves you opportunity to trade Fiala if you think you can improve that way. Keeps the Cap in a pretty good spot for more maneuvers.

I would think in a scenario like this I would try and do a greenway and rask to Seattle type deal. Because that would give the wild the cap flexibility they would need for the next offseason, unless you want pld as a short termer

Well, he would be a top pair defenseman if Winnipeg acquired him.

The point in MIN trading Dumba is the fact that SEA could take him....as if MIN gets a 22 year old Center for him...maybe we swing a deal for Copp but not Dubois...

He plays behind Spurgeon in Minnesota, who is better than a lot of the league's top pairing RHD. Silly comment comparing Dumba to who he plays behind in Minnesota and somehow thinking that forms a comparison of Dumba to other team's RHD.

2 years of Dumba isn't worth near that much.

That doesn't mean Winnipeg gets a discounted rate because of the expansion draft. The Wild will get the value they want (which none of us know) or they probably hang on to Dumba.

More pointing out the irony in the statement.. Spurgeon is great and other teams also have high end talent at RSD. crazy to think outside Minn there are other good RSD. do you have Dumba as a top 40 defenseman? honestly asking bc by the way you are talking it seem like you think he is a top pairing defenseman

What the expansion draft does is you lose someone like Greenway or Dumba....or the Jets trade Copp and a 3rd for Dumba and all MIN loses is a random nobody....

thats what i was thinking but that guysaid he would be a top pairing guy for the Jets and thats not true. idk if i have Dumba in my top 40 dmen...maybe top 50?

in Washington he would be #3behind Carlson and Orlov
He's currently #3 on his own team
Tampa he would be #3......

feels like he would be a #3 on most competing NHL teams

In the Wild's case they played Suter/Spurgeon and Brodin/Dumba however they felt was best. They matched both sets of D against the forward lines of other teams the way they thought matched up best. Both sets had nearly equal playing time. So if you want to argue which set is 1 and which set is 2 is pretty irrelevant. So Dumba or Pionk, 1 or 2, does it matter. The fact is Winnipeg would take Dumba in a heartbeat for the right price.

i think my main point is that Dumba would rarely be considered 1st or 2nd best on most NHL teams... Brodin is elite and so is Spurgeon. I wouldnt want to trade a 1-2c for a 3-4 defenseman .... just rarely turns out well for the team taking the Dman

That's the key right there. I'm sure the Jets would take Dumba, but this isn't anywhere close to the right price.

I'm not sure how you gather anything about my thoughts on Dumba from what I said. I just said the point about him not even being a top pairing guy on Minnesota is a straw man argument when it comes to how he compares to other teams.

To answer your question, is he a top pairing dman? Honestly, no, he's a 2nd pairing guy who can play up depending on his partner but he can't carry a top pairing role like some top pairing guys can and do. He's not a defensive liability like some of the experts here think but he also doesn't see a lot of PK time so it's clearly not his strength.

1) i was saying people are calling him a top pairing Dman. WHICH IS IRONIC bc hes not even the top pairing RHD on his team.
2) i don't think he's a defensive liability either he gets a bad rap like Carlson neither are good but hardly terrible
