Heiskanen isn't bridging for that cheap, he was about to win a Conn Smythe at 21 in his second year in the NHL

I like the thinking here in order to put Miro back on the left side.

But, I think you are short of between 1,5M$-2M$ for Miro.

You would need to unload Faksa or Dickinson/Sekera to make that work.

That Lindell contract is getting worse and worse. Habs only paid 3,5M$ for Edmondson who is better than Lindell.

Hard pass on Hamonic. There’s really no affordable RD that I would be comfortable throwing in our top-4. Gonna have to draft & develop, trade for one, or wait until next offseason.

Hjalmarsson Montour and McCabe come to mind, or you could keep Oleksiak

Josh Manson could be a short term solution. If we would have been ok with Johns, I do not see why Manson would not be a suitable solution.

My fault, I should have phrased that better. There’s not a RHD available (that Dallas could afford) that I like on the UFA market. If we’re going to continue having LHD like Hjalmarsson or McCabe play the right side (which is fine), I’d rather just keep Heiskanen over there.

Assuming we re-sign Oleksiak, I don’t see the money being available for the $4M+ contract that a RHD like Montour would want.

Manson still has a year remaining on his contract with Anaheim. I’d be fine exploring a trade with the Ducks, but I doubt Dallas would want to pay the cost Anaheim would want for a defenseman of his caliber

For what it’s worth I asked that question to Ducks fans. Since he is a pending UFA, the price would be in the range of a second round pick and a B prospect according to them.

I rather pay one year of Manson than to engage in a 4 years contract with JO north of 3,5M$ per year.

Multiple articles have him in the 5.5-6 million range for three years with multiple comparables listed. The point production just isn’t there. His camp could point to poor usage but I still don’t see him getting a whole lot more than that for three years

Ham played solid hockey end of the season. Was a good fit with Hughes so I feel like he would help us get more out of Miro. He’s one of the few guys I could see taking a one year deal as well which helps with Klinger, JRob, Oetter, etc. I’m fine with drafting Cuelemans, tho I think there’s better forward talent in our range. If you get Miro to bridge and we can move one of Fox or Dickie and Dobby out, there should be enough room to add a forward and defenseman on three year deals. Tell Coleman to bring Savard with him. I’m okay with whatever. I’m okay with Oleksiak on a three year deal tbh. I just wish they’d go back to telling him to play simple and let Miro drive play. I’m just worried Nill will give Oleksiak more than he’s worth, then do nothing else

In other words, you are saying that Bowness system and usage will cost him 1 to 1,5M$ per the number of years of his new contract? It’s difficult to generate offense when you are forced to bail out your partner and when you play most of the time with that awful FCC line.

That’s what I meant by poor usage. And to be honest I’d be very happy if his camp pointed it out cuz I don’t think Nill and Bones see it. If they did they would have fixed it already

I am pretty sure that Bowness sees it. It’s all part of his philosophy of limiting scoring chances first and foremost at all cost. Even if the cost is to put your franchise D in multiple defensive situation with defensive players.

I never witnessed a more conservative coach than him in my 126 years of watching hockey. I mean, who else than Bowness would play the likes of Faksa, Lindell, Dickinson in 3 vs 3 OT?

And that is also why Nill needs to save Bones from himself. I think I’ll do a save Bones from himself post 🤔

If Marino isn’t costly I’d love to pair him with Heiskanen. They’d be perfect partners. The only problem is that we would likely have to pay wayyy too much to get him.
