Maybe. DeBrusk is defintely on the block and Boston needs defensemen at the moment. Zaitsev could be a good 2nd or 3rd pair defense and Forsberg is a good depth goalie. That 2nd round pick might have to be a 3rd or 4th though.

Zaitsev and Forsberg are both good... in the AHL.

    Bruins need a a top4 LD, not a 5th pair RD.
    Boston14 liked this.

With Halak and Rask who have had injury problems, Forsberg could be a good 3rd goalie who can be called-up in case of injury. And Zaitsev would defintely be one of Boston's top 6 defensemen (assuming they don't get anyone else in the offseason).

We have Swayman, Vladar and Keyser in the system. We could find a better option in FA for another goalie of they felt they needed one while Rask rehabs.

While Zaitsev might be one of the top 6, Boston needs a true 1LD not another maybe top 6 guy

if only zaitsev was LHD id like this trade a little more, i don't think boston needs to add a pick though as they are taking on zaitsevs large contract but that alex formenton kid could be specials. hes only 21 and hes also 6'2 and fast if he could put some weight on him and be around 190-200 lbs he could be an underrated star kinda like a Left handed alex tuch

That's a good point. I kinda forgot about Swayman and Vladar tbh. Either way, Boston would be getting a solid prospect in Formenton and a top 6 D-man in Zaitsev while giving up someone that they don't have much use for.

Halak is healthy and he is a UFA. Forsberg is an AHL goalie, he isn't a "good 3rd goalie" (or your standards are very low). Zaitsev would be in the top6 but he shouldn't. And they are probably going to get someone in the offseason.

So let me see if I'm following this right. The best piece Boston is getting back is a skilled winger whose projects as a middle 6 forward if he makes it. In return they trade a guy, who in your words they don't have much use for, and that guy is a (checks notes) a skilled middle 6 forward Huh?

I meant more that they are going to move on from DeBrusk either way (sorry for the misleading wording). Formenton may have a higher ceiling than DeBrusk too. Zaitsev could also be pretty valuable to Boston, even just as a rental. I might actually take out Forsberg and change the 2nd rounder to a 4th or something. DeBrusk's time in Boston is almost defintely over, so it's best for Boston to get a young prospect and a top 6 defenseman. I don't think there's much more Boston could get for DeBrusk at this point.

Who says they are moving on? Because he has a bad season in which he was on COVID protocol twice, was asked to play RW for the first time in his career and battled mental issues from the isolation (no family or significant other in Boston) required by the NHL. His two most common linemates this year were Coyle and Ritchie. Coyle had the worst year of his career this year and Ritchie fell off a cliff after his hot start.

I'd give you a 2nd for Formenton and you can keep the rest.

I've heard from a number of sources that DeBrusk is likely done in Boston for a variety of reasons. Not saying they're trading him just cause of one bad season. I'm not saying this trade will happen, but something like this, and it would make sense for both teams. Just my opinion though.

I can't remeber them all, but The Athletic (multiple articles talk about him and his poor relationship with Bruce Cassidy and the odds of him being moved), TSN, and Bleacher Report just to name a few.

I wouldnt swap Forms for Debrusk 1 for 1. Definitely dont think Ottawa needs another 2nd. Cant imagine that getting accepted. Lateral move at best because shedding Zaitsev's contract isnt a priority.
