Need to spend talent to get talent

Description
So I've been reading a lot of articles lately that the leafs are starting the process to find a quality top 4 dman or even a top pair D but that the other teams want Nylander in return. Though I can see a chance of that for a true #1 dman I doubt Lou will pay that right now. But I could see Kapanen being traded. 1st we are set at RW with Brown and Marner( I'm not including Nylander cause I feel there's a chance he's going to move to center by 2018). We also have some sound prospects coming up that will give the RW some size that though I like Kapanen no one is every going to mistake him for a Power Forward. 2nd teams are seeing what is happening in Toronto and unless we overpay in picks I doubt they will accept the offer due to that they might be starting to think they are helping them win a cup. 3rd Anaheim need forward depth and they actually have some sound prospects that can replace Manson. Stoner is added to sweeten the pot for Anaheim. He'll be a depth dman for the leafs and a playoff experienced player who could be a good mentor.

Sounds reasonable. Manson is just two years away from UFA, I believe. If he's "your guy", sure would like to lengthen his stay with the Leafs. The Hyman/Brown deals. 4 years takes them into UFA. Either a two year "bridge" or a six year might be reasonable for both sides. (I like the six years but I'm sure I'm in the minority)

Was not even thinking about UFA when made it 4 years but probably will come down to how confident Babcock is that Brown and Hyman are the right complement to Matthews.

It seems Manson is the player everyone has their eyes on now. I hope the leafs can get him. I think the ducks will be looking for a veteran forward though. They have a good team and will want to make a push for the cup. I suggested Komorov Yesterday and you said the value wasn't there. The teams may have to make this a bigger deal based around Mason to the leafs and forward depth to the Ducks.

I think Manson would be a good addition, I'm not sure if I would want to give up Kapanen. I understand your logic about RW'ers but at the same time he could just as easily play the left side. What if he ends up being a 25/30 goal guy? I mean ultimately negotiations would be based upon what ANA is willing to take. So I could see them being happy with a Leipsic or other prospect

That was based off upside Komarov though a very useful 3/4 line forward does not have the potential Kapanen has also looking at the Hall trade this gives them a player that can play on their 3rd line right now and can someday possibly replace Perry if he meets his projected solid top 6 forward skill level.

Though you can never have enough 25/30 goal scorers the reason I picked Kapanen is due to that he is only a winger where Nylander can play all 3 positions. Also, though I see Leipsic as a Komarov lite I feel they will need a prospect that will have a little more upside. Also, if they keep JVR, Hyman and Komarov which depending on asking price where does he play on LW.
