Pens have almost $14M tied up in FIVE LEFT-HANDED DEFENSEMEN. The Pens likely have to move two of Pettersson, Matheson and Zucker just to keep what they have with a little left over to fill up the lineup.

It's a serious joke. Every leafs fan keeps sending us Reilly. I know you think it's a joke because of the return, but the Pens wouldn't take him for free because it's just not feasible in our lineup.

David Savard got a first round pick for like 20 games and he’s not even a top 100 defensemen. You really think a full season of Reilly isn’t worth more then that

We have to move from them for financial reasons, so replacing them with a dman who makes more doesn't make any sense.

It makes ZERO sense if you actually look at our team. We have one of the best 1st d-pairs in the league. We're fine.

Take a look at the finances. You could give him to us for free and we'd say no. It doesn't work.

I get that, but I think you're just not understanding the Pens' financial situation. Yeah, we could move both to make room, but trust me, Matheson is very difficult to move and likely a Penguin for life. Rutherford buried us with that trade.

Also, while this one didn't, most of the Leafs people have been taking our 1st next year. Hextall has REPEATEDLY stated in the media that he's stopping what Rutherford was doing and not moving our top picks or prospects unless it's an amazing deal. Reilly, as good as he is, for one year isn't an amazing deal.

I can understand the penguins not wanting to trade a first given that you guys have had like 2 in the last 10 years but if David Savard gets a first at the deadline Reilly is worth a first and more from some team

Reilly worth a 1st is not the question. The Pens are just not giving the leafs a 1st for a player they can't afford on a one year deal. Someone else can give it to you.

the penguins don't want Reilly.
They don't have the cap and he's soft.
That really doesn't solve their issues.
