but this way we have almost 10 mil on the third pairing...it's way too much

plus i believe mcginn doesn't have the skill to play top 6 minutes and don't think caulfield will be ready...

So Zucker is that bad? He has Buffalo on his NTC anyway.

Ristolainen is on a 1 year deal and so is Letang, we'll see from there. There is cap savings on Nemeth, who is paired with Marino who is more mobile so the two biggest guys with the least speed aren't on the same pair. We'll see on McGinn I have him there to start the season, you could see Poulin there. Caulfield could step right in. That 3rd line doesn't have to play major minutes, the 4th line is that good. He can learn and grow with Carter.

I think you underestimate Ristolainen . We value him differently.

At the end of the day, you have to lose what you want to lose. Which is why teams cut deals.

This is not a bad idea, but I would also try to get rid of Riikola's contract and use that caphit for signing a veteran goalie, or maybe there could be a retention of Ristolainen.

Matheson coughs up way more goals than Pettersson, I'm done arguing this with pens fans Pettersson is reliable in his own end. Period.

yeah I agree, Riikola deserves a shot to play somewhere, he never got a legit shot here. Dumb ass sullivan played JJ over him for years like a total moron. I just didn't need to move it so I didn't.
I don't know what they are going to do with him this year. Move him, play him, is he the 7D, or do we get chad and friedman. Too many bodies someone should go.

I doubt BUF retains on Risto, but that's ok, I think he can be the player the penguins need back there.
As for the goalie, I don't think they make a move. They don't want term, and I think the prospect guys are probably closer than people realize.

I don’t mind the Zucker trade. Wouldn’t mind Risto here. I just don’t think Zucker has Buffalo on his trade list. Maybe a 3 team trade where Zucker goes to a contender like Colorado and Colorado sends someone to Buffalo. Idk if Nemeth would be necessary. Pettersson and Marino work too well together that I’d hate to split them up again. And would love to see POJ get a 3rd pair role. Or Riikola at least. Riikola-Risto pair might actually be tough to play against because Riikola can actually skate a bit and probably make up for Risto’s lack of speed.

I added Nemeth because to solve the problems it can't just be 1 guy. That doesn't work. It needs to be a collective shift in attitude and play and that takes a group.
While I agree about Riikola, Sully hates him. That's all there is to it. He played JJ over him for 2 years, it what is one of the biggest coaching blunders I have ever seen.

The fact that he played JJ over anyone is mind boggling. Especially after the first half of the first season where he was an absolute dumpster fire and a half.
