Why would AZ trade a young legit 2C signed to a very affordable contract for a so so 3C?

Also, why on earth would you trade Miller? Dude is a stud. This line-up makes you guys much weaker IMO.

Because its Arizona, lol. I dont think this makes them weaker, it makes them more balanced and complete.

Miller is a stud, but so is Matthew Robertson. We convert Miller into a position of dire need for the Rangers who is one of the highest ranked young centers in the league.

Rangers now have a legit bottom 6.

Rangers also convert a bunch of very expensive contracts that would put them against the cap ceiling and gives them some air to resign Zib and Fox, as well as a bridge deal for Vilardi, Kakko and Kravtsov. But also move up in the draft to get a center for the future.

Like your idea with Buch and Miller…just think the value is off…probably because I see you putting considerable value in moving to 8 from 15….I’m not familiar enough with the talent in this draft to definitively comment whether that’s worthwhile- but I’m guessing that with the less hockey and less scouting due to COVID- this not the year to move up- unless there really is a guy you covet who you see available as pick 8 comes up…one other thing- rather that move up this year, I’d rather get an extra 1st in 2022…that draft supposedly loaded.

As a Los Angeles fan, I think Miller is exactly the type of young LD Rob Blake was talking about in his recent comments about his main acquisition target this off-season. As you point out, Robertson and/or Jones are likely replacements for Miller and this trade alleviates some of your cap stress.

I really like this idea. A lot.

I do think Nils would come and play next year before Schneider. Dvorak would be 2C prior to Villardi. I do think AZ would want more for that package and rightfully so, but it’s doable with not having Buch to LAK bc KAM does seem like he’ll be a top 4 LHD for anybody long term maybe a top pair dman. But the general team looks a lot better.

I dont believe Nils has ever played pro on North American ice, which may require some adjusting to. Also, Nils made a career of playing both RD and LD, he actually played a lot of his off side which in NA hockey usually does not work out and is a very difficult transition to make. I think Nils will probably spend some time in the AHL and might get called up when the rosters expand after the trade deadline unless he plays SO good that they have no choice but to call him up. Gotta remember, Nils is a smaller guy and the Rangers are trying to become a more assertive, shut down team.

Totally fair but he is still very young so hopefully Nils can add 10 lbs to get to the 180+ range. Fox is a smaller guy as well and is very good and tough.
