I actually hope NY and San Jose really come together and do this trade! It’s smart for both teams

Yeah I don’t like moving Chytil but I feel like he’s gonna he shopped this offseason. NYR were an atrocious faceoff team last year and Hertl would help a lot. Mutually beneficial deal for both teams.

Long term this makes no sense from a cap standpoint. Are we then keeping Hertl and letting Mika and Strome gone? Cause the cap will make it awfully hard to keep 2 of the 3. And Chytil could be the young 3C or eventual 2C but you’ve traded him. I like the Ekholm trade, but not sure how we’ll be able to resign him.

From a cap perspective it makes sense because it leaves our books open for next offseason to resign Fox, Zibanejad, Kakko etc. or even make a run at Barkov if that’s what they want to do. I don’t love trading a 1st round pick and Chytil for 1 year of Hertl but he makes the team better this year and it keeps them flexible going forward in terms of cap. Unless they’re more involved on Eichel then they’re making it seem I think they’re looking for improvements on short term contracts.

I think all of these are short sighted, when we’d be better off keeping Mika, have Chytil and Strome split 2C this year and get a solid 3C like Eller and a better 4th line C to play with Rooney and Blackwell. That way the year of 2022-23 Chytil can grab the 2C spot, we still have Mika, Eller or Eller type 3C and that 4C. Cap picture is much better that way, especially with anchors like Trouba and Kreider on the books.

NSH doesn't consider that. Jones isn't an organizational need. If Ekholm were to get traded, they'd be much more interested in forward prospects with top six potential.

It may be short sighted but you have to consider Dolan has given a playoff mandate. Who gives NYR a better chance at the playoffs next year, Hertl or Chytil?

That short sighted mindset is why we’ll never win a cup with short cuts like that. And then we complain about not winning.

If they trade this package for Hertl it’s to have him with an extension for something like 6x6 and then have strome walk or trade him too

Rangers would sign Hertl if they trade Chytil for him.

Your idea is exactly why I am willing to trade Hertl.
We lose our top C but we may have lost him next year for nothing, this way we get Chytil now and he slots in the 3C roll with two wingers who showed a lot of promise last year and next year he can push for the 2C roll, I would plan on grabbing one of those D prospects with our 7th pick and one of the two talented goalies with the 15th. And Georgiev either gets a great spot to prove he can be a starter or we prove he can’t and move on for fairly cheap.
Though I would assume the only way NY gives up all that is if Hertl agrees to an extension prior to leaving.

In the next 4 years Hertl is clearly better to get you in and help you win games in the playoffs, Chytil is a better long term investment so the question is win now or win for the next decade!!!

I love Chytil, literally my favorite player to watch on the rangers besides Panarin and Fox, so it would pain me to see him traded but Hertl is currently the better player and like I said Dolan has made it clear he wants to be in the playoffs next year so I assume Chytil will probably be shopped this offseason for an upgrade at 2/3C

And my hope is Wilson sees this and utilizes this to get the sharks better set for the future, the biggest key is the rangers have a stacked minor league system and these two pieces won’t bankrupt their future but they will go a long way in restoring the sharks future.
